Harry Styles tells Radio 1 listeners about drunken night with Nick Grimshaw

Harry Styles told Radio 1 listeners all about a drunken night he had with Nick Grimshaw during his special message to the host on his final radio show at the station.

One Direction’s Harry reminisced on some good times he’s had with his pal Nick in a sweet message to celebrate the presenter’s last show on BBC Radio 1.

Nick, 36, is leaving the station after almost 14 years of airtime and to pay tribute to his success, a string of warm send-offs flocked in from stars and Radio 1 staff.

But towards the end of the show, Grimmy was treated to a special farewell from Harry.

In a pre-recorded audio clip, the Fine Line singer said: “Hi Grimmy, it’s Harry. I cannot believe it’s your last week on Radio 1.

“My favourite time being on Radio 1 with you was probably forming the Straight Through Crew and going straight in from the Brits.

“But also, every time that could have been so scary for me playing new music, it was always so nice for me to have a friend there and it always felt so safe.”

Since then the two have remained good friends

He added: “Thank you for being my favourite show on radio, thank you for being a friend and I miss you and I can’t wait to see you soon. Good luck with everything, I love you. Bye!”

Radio 1 fans will recognise Harry’s tale as the evening he and Grimmy partied hard after the Brit Awards in 2013 and hilariously turned up to the host’s breakfast show still in a state from the night before.

The presenter recently reflected on the iconic moment and said: “I think it was a culturally relevant hangover. We all made it in, but my producers didn’t!

“That’s why it sounded so mad – because both my producers were asleep on a different floor. It was absolute chaos.”

He went on: “It was so fun. When I’m out, I hate the party ending – I hate everyone having to go home. So I thought if I’ve got to go in, why don’t we make them come in?”

The Radio 1 veteran is planning to focus on TV work going forward and will be replaced by Jordan North and Vick Hope from September.

He had first announced his departure at the end of June and told his followers at the time: “Some news I can finally share after giving it some thought for a while… I have decided that after 14 years on air it’s time for me to leave Radio 1.

“It was my childhood dream to work here and I have truly had the time of my life. But now is time for a change.”
