Home and Away's Dieter Brummer died after being 'broken by strict Covid rules'

Home and Away star Dieter Brummer was forced out of work by strict Covid lockdown rules in Sydney before he died, his close friend have claimed.

The actor, who played the role of Shane Parrish on the Australian soap, was found dead at home in Glenhaven at the age of 45 on July 24.

Days before his tragic death, Shane was reportedly offered work by an old pal washing the windows of an apartment building.

The final photo of the late star shows him with a beard with the caption: “looking forward to a future working high above Covid which is ‘apparently’ ‘ravaging’ Sydney”.

However, the government paused all construction work in the city just two days later as new restrictions were introduced to try and stop the Delta variant.

Colleagues and pals close to the TV personality have since offered an insight into the circumstances surrounding his death.

His employer, who had known him for 20 years, told Daily Mail Australia: “He was really excited and really grateful about the job.

“The lockdown took the wind out of his sails.”

Dieter’s mum Dawn is also thought to be writing a book on her son’s battle with depression, the publication reports.

Dieter was found dead last Saturday after police officers were asked to perform a welfare check on him.

NSW Police confirmed his death was not being treated as suspicious on July 24.

They told MailOnline: “About 1.30pm (Saturday 24 July 2021), officers from The Hills Police Area Command responded to reports of a concern for welfare at a home on Glenhaven Road, Glenhaven,’ a police spokesperson said.

“The body of a man was located inside the home. His death is not believed to be suspicious. A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.”

Brummer played heartthrob Shane Parrish on Home and Away from 1992 to 1996, earning legions of fans with his most notable storyline with Angel Brooks, played by Melissa George.

Shane was killed off the soap from septicaemia (blood poisoning), which Dieter later claimed he had asked for after “hating” working with George.
