I'm A Celeb fans switch off as highlight show 'proves ITV series should be in jungle'

I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! viewers have been left unimpressed with the current series after ITV was forced to air another highlights episode with footage from past years.

The show was brought to a standstill after the camp was battered by Storm Arwen, and the celebrity camp mates were removed as a safety precaution.

But the highlights show, which also aired on Saturday night, has left viewers begging for it to return to Australia once again.

One person said: “When you realise that the highlights show is bringing more entertainment in a weekend, than the current show has in a week.”

Another tweeted: “Tonight’s I’m A Celeb jungle fever episode just proves that I’m A Celeb belongs in the jungle and not in a castle.”

A third wrote: “Watching the I’m A Celeb highlights show confirms my sadness that the Welsh version is not nearly as dynamic and fun. Is it the setting or the celebs?”

Someone else said: “These shows are just proving that I’m A Celeb needs to move back to Australia ASAP.”

And a fifth added: “These impromptu shows are just reminding us how much we all wish it was back in the jungle.”

While another said: “Really missing I’m A Celebrity due to Storm Arwen but can’t tolerate mashed up jungle fever. Sorry guys got to turn off. If in Wales next year (storms allowing) we want weekend programmes back.”

On Saturday, ITV released a statement which confirmed the planned live shows would not be happening.

It read: “Owing to technical difficulties caused by extreme weather conditions in the area, there will be no new episodes of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! this weekend (Saturday and Sunday).

“I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! will be replaced tonight and tomorrow night in the ITV schedules by compilation shows (voiced by Ant & Dec) featuring best moments from previous series.”

Hours later, another statement was released confirming the celebrities had been evacuated.

It read: “Whilst we get the production base back up and running after suffering technical issues due to the storm, we have removed the celebrities from the castle.”

They were moved into individual quarantine to ensure Covid bubble rules were not broken.
