Alex Jones has become a well known face to Brits across the country thanks to her ongoing presenting role on BBC’s The One Show.
Replacing host Christine Bleakley in 2010, Alex, 44, took the reins to present the popular BBC programme alongside former co-host Matt Baker and has been a part of the team ever since.
The loveable Welsh presenter, whose first name is actually Charlotte has also hosted Let’s Dance for Comic Relief and starred in the ninth series of Strictly Come Dancing back in 2011.
But although she often appears on our screens on a weekly basis, many are unaware of what her life is like away from the cameras.
Daily Star has taken a look inside Alex Jones’s life off air.
Early life
Charlotte Alexandra Jones was born in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire to parents Mary and Alun Jones. She also has a younger sister named Jennie.
Believe it or not, Alex was quite a shy child growing up but was assisted by her drama teacher to come out of her shell.
The young star trained to become a ballet dancer and later studied film, television, and theatre at the Aberystwyth University.
After graduating, Alex became a television researcher but was unfortunately sacked twice. One of the reasons for her sacking was for accidentally mistaking band member Mike Peters from the The Alarm for a workman who had come to fix the office alarm.
During her early twenties Alex bagged her first presenting role for BBC Choice. She later joined S4C as a presenter on the Welsh singing programme Cân i Gymru.
Alex’s husband Charlie Thomson
Alex and her husband Charlie Thomson first met at a party in 2011 and have been together for ten years.
Unlike many celebs who often find relationships with someone who works in a similar background, Charlie is an insurance broker originally from New Zealand.
Charlie tries to ensure that he keeps away form the limelight, but Alex frequently posts pics of the pair on her Instagram page and provides her fans with insight into her family life.
In 2012, Alex admitted that she enjoyed not dating someone who worked in showbiz, saying: “It’s so refreshing to be with someone outside of the media industry.
“A lot of people think it’s better to be with someone who understands how it works, but this works for me.”
Wedding
Alex and Charlie got engaged in 2015 and tied the knot the same year in a private New Year’s Eve ceremony at Cardiff Castle.
After the happy couple got married, Alex changed her name to Alex Jones Thomson however she still uses the name Alex Jones professionally.
In 2016, Alex wished her husband a happy wedding anniversary with a throwback snap on Instagram.
Captioning the adorable pic, Alex wrote: “A year ago today we became husband and wife. How we wish we could do it all over again!! Thanks to our families and friends for making it the best day we could have ever imagined. Diolch.”
Children
Alex and Charlie have two children together and are currently expecting their third.
In September 2016, Alex announced that she and husband Charlie were expecting their first child but at the time fans had already speculated that she was pregnant.
Taking to Instagram the star wrote: “Charlie and I are very happy to confirm that we’re expecting a little baby in the new year. Absolutely delighted and feel very lucky that we’re about to become parents. #andbreatheout #newbabyalert.”
The happy couple decided to call her their first born son Teddy.
Three years later The One Show presenter gave birth to her second child, a boy called Kit in May 2019.
Excited about her baby news, Alex broke her silence on the BBC programme and told her co-host Matt Baker “We are now a family of four.”
Earlier this year, Alex opened up to Closer magazine and revealed that she is currently pregnant with her third child who is a little girl.
Discussing the details of pregnancy and when she found out the host said: “I just felt really tired but, of course, in hindsight I was pregnant. I thought it was the veganism making me drained of energy but it wasn’t.”
Net worth
During the course of her career, it has been estimated that Alex has accumulated a net worth of £7million.
According to reports from the Daily Express, in 2017 the BBC paid the star between £400,000 and £449,000 for her presenting role on The One Show.
Alex also earned a huge sum for competing in Strictly Come Dancing in 2011 and although she never disclosed the fee she was paid, celebrities reportedly earn a set fee of £25,000 for signing up for the show.
This sum later rises to £40,000 for those who make it to the end of October and a total of £60,000 is given to those who end up in the quarter finals.
Alex finished in 5th place in 2011, therefore her fee reportedly went up a considerable amount.
Not only this but the TV personality has also hosted BBC’s Tumble, Shop Well for Less? and Close Calls: On Camera which has certainly stacked up her earnings.
