The residents of Weatherfield have had a particularly dramatic year, which has seen longstanding residents exit Coronation Street for good, sinkholes open up in the Platt’s back garden and the tragic deaths of many of the characters.
With everyone still dealing with the fall out of 2021, many of its residents are hoping for a quieter Christmas.
However in soapland anything can happen, and as always, it looks like it won’t be a straight forward Christmas in Coronation Street.
In real life though, the actors that have brought our favourite Weatherfield residents to life have revealed the interesting items that they would buy for their characters for Christmas after such a tough year, and what the actors own plans for the festive season are.
Alexandra Mardell
Emma Brooker has had a tough year on the soap and Alexandra Mardell who plays her hopes that Emma gets “her happy ever after” for Christmas.
She also revealed that she would buy her character a pink scooter so she could keep an eye on Curtis, but that in real life, her favourite ever present that she has received was a mini kitchen aid mixer.
Looking ahead to the festive season, Alexandra also shared that she will be “stuffing my face with my family”, adding that her favourite Christmas tradition is having fajitas on Christmas Eve.
Ben Price
Gail Platt’s son Nick is known for his array of stylish suits, and actor Ben Price has jokingly revealed that he would buy Nick a trouser press for Christmas.
Earlier this year, viewers were also introduced to Nick’s son Sam Blakeman, with Ben saying that Nick’s only Christmas wish would be “for Sam to get back to his normal self.”
Ben also shared an insight into his day, admitting he has no traditions but his wife does, saying: “It’s the tree, then you can open one present the night before, then there’s the stocking, then when you wake up it’s not presents straight away… it’s a bit of breakfast, then it’s presents… I can’t remember them all!
“The kids like that. I am just quite happy to be there, I just roll with it. The dog will normally come up and lie on the bed as if it’s Christmas for her as well.”
Like Nick, Ben also has plans to spend quality time with his family and children this festive season too, saying that one of his favourite Christmas memories is when his kids realised what Christmas was for the first time.
“I remember putting a mince pie out with little footprints in the casting sugar and my daughter said, “Santa’s been,” said Ben.
“Seeing Christmas through a child’s eyes is really special, it’s those magical moments.”
Daniel Brocklebank
After a string of broken hearts from splits with characters including Todd Grimshaw, Daniel Brocklebank who plays Vicar Billy Mayhew has said he thinks Billy’s Christmas wish would be to “find somebody to love and someone who loves him back.”
He also joked that he would buy Billy some friends for Christmas, saying: “Billy hasn’t got any friends, literally Billy No Mates!”
Outside of Weatherfield, Daniel said he is looking forward to Christmas with his parents and grandmother, but also has a cute present for two important members of his family – his dogs.
Daniel said: “I will also be with my dogs, Colin and Jean, who have their own stockings which will be hung above the fire, embroidered with their names.”
Ellie Leach
Faye has been embroiled in a lot of trouble during the past year, and actress Ellie Leach is hoping that Faye’s Christmas wish will be granted.
“I think Faye’s Christmas wish this year is to stay out of trouble, although I’m not sure how that’s working out for her!”, adding that after such a tough year, she would buy Faye some fancy jewellery as “she deserves something a bit fancy after the year she’s had.”
Ellie has also revealed that she comes from a large family, where there is usually 10 people around the dinner table on the big day.
She said she can’t wait to spend time with her huge family, but not before her and her sister have woken up “at the crack of dawn” to open their presents on the big day.
Jennie McAlpine
Fiz Brown is a Coronation Street fan favourite character, and viewers have been through all her ups and downs in 2021, including her split from Tyrone.
Looking back on everything that has happened to Fizz, actress Jennie McAlpine said that she would buy her “a magic wand to get everyone – the ex, the new boyfriend, the grandmother in law to all get on.”
Jennie also added that she would like Christmas to be more settled for Fizz, saying “all she wants is for the girls to be happy, for her and Tyrone to not be at each other’s throats and for Evelyn to be in a good mood.”
In her own life, Jennie is also expecting to be up early on the big day with her children and shared that her favourite Christmas gift she had ever received was a “Sindy’s kitchen” when she was younger.
Sally Ann Matthews

She revealed her Christmas tradition, saying: “As well as the mince pie and carrot for Santa and Rudolph, my kids always made them a noughts & crosses and a word search. Santa had to work hard at our house.”

Reflecting on the year they have had, actress Tanisha Gorey said that Asha’s Christmas wish would be: “wanting to see everybody happy around the Christmas tree.
“Everybody has been through so much and she would want Nina to be happy and enjoying herself whilst spending time with one another.”
Like Asha, Tanisha is close to her siblings and talking about Christmas in her house, she said: “Although I’m the eldest sibling out of me and brother who’s 9, I’m always the one who has to wake him up on Christmas morning!”
She added: “Once I’ve done that, we will go downstairs, wait for both sets of grandparents to come round, eat breakfast, then finally open our presents!
“The only slight Christmas tradition we have, is that we can NOT go into the living room before we’ve eaten our breakfast, and that breakfast has got to always be a bacon butty!”
