Inside Tess Daly and Vernon Kay's 'work in progress' relationship

Tess Daly has kept television viewers entertained for two decades and has won herself an army of fans from her appearances on Strictly Come Dancing and Children in Need, among many other shows.

Her husband Vernon Kay is also a television star, most recently competing on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! last year.

She supported him throughout his time in the Welsh castle and he spoke of their romance, after having been together since 2001.

They’re still going strong to this day and, as Tess celebrates her birthday, we take a closer look at Vernon and Tess’ “work in progress” relationship.

Vernon and Tess met when he was a presenter on Channel 4’s T4 back in 2001.

They started dating shortly after, and Tess has previously said they shared an instant connection with each other.

She told Digital Spy in 2013: “It was all quite immediate, really, because we instantly had such a blast together.

“I couldn’t imagine having more fun with anyone else. It was pretty explosive, I tell you.”

Vernon and Tess tied the knot in 2003 in St Mary’s Church in Horwich, Vernon’s hometown.

On the first recap episode of I’m A Celebrity, Vernon also revealed he and Tess had renewed their vows in France about five years ago.

In 2017, the couple revealed that their marriage is a “work in progress”.

Tess said in an interview with The Times: “All marriages have their moments. It would be unrealistic to say they don’t.

“Marriage is always a work in progress. Vernon and I are just people at the end of the day”.

But they have since grown really close as a family during lockdown.

He told The Mirror: “When you’re in lockdown and you’re spending 24/7 with each other it really gives you the chance to really kind of re-connect and get to know each other, not better, but you really get under the skin of your relationship with your kids and your missus.”

The couple share two daughters together, Phoebe, who was born in 2004, and Amber, who was born in 2009.

In an interview about why he is taking part in I’m A Celebrity, Vernon said: “I am doing it for my daughters, Phoebe and Amber.

“It’s a show they watch on a regular basis and they get behind the people in the camp. I think the fact I am involved will make it even more fun for them!”
