Inside The Chase's Paul Sinha's life from marriage and net worth to Weakest Link stint

Paul Sinha is one of the nation’s favourite Chasers.

But there is more to the 51-year-old than being a quiz master extraordinaire on The Chase.

Paul has had a long and illustrious career and actually used to be a GP, as well as being a stand-up comedian. In fact, he first started gigging while working as a junior doctor in London and King’s Lynn in Norfolk.

The ITV star, who said he comes from a traditional and rather conservative Bengali family, also came out as gay when he was 35.

So from his wedding two years ago to his mammoth success now, here is all you need to know to about “The Sinnerman”.

Before The Chase

Paul trained as a doctor at St George’s, University of London, and it was while he was a junior medic he began his stand up career. His ethnicity and sexuality were the inspiration for his early material and by 1999 he took third place in the Hackney Empire New Act of the Year awards.

Paul was very active on the Edinburgh Fringe scene and went on to become a regular face on the UK quiz show circuit, including Mastermind, Eggheads and University Challenge. He has also appeared on numerous Radio 4 shows like The News Quiz, The Now Show, Loose Ends.

Paul was on The Weakest Link, too – but was fourth to be voted off. Since 2011 he has been a Chaser and is now instantly recognisable. Strangely, he has said though that he is actually better known abroad – particularly in New Zealand.

Paul’s personal life

Paul married Oliver Levy two years ago

Paul married his husband Oliver Levy two years ago and described the wedding as “the greatest day of my life”.

The pair tied the knot in a private and intimate ceremony in a registry office with just 38 guests and in a quirky touch, one of the readings was taken from a Pet shop Boys song.

Paul has previously opened up about how nervous he was about coming out to his family – especially his dad.

Speaking on a Clive Anderson podcast, he said: “Certainly things have moved on, there’s no doubt that coming out to my dad was the fulcrum of everything that’s happened in my life.

“When you grow up in a relatively conservative Bengali family and you know there’s no chance you’re ever not going to be gay.”

But Paul need not have worried as his family were completely accepting and adore Oliver – who he said is also a quiz fiend.

He added: “You don’t know how it’s going to pan out and the other day I had an argument with my husband in front of my dad, and my dad took his side, that’s how much he loves my husband, just took his side!”

Paul’s net worth

It is estimated the quiz legend is worth a hefty £1 million

It is estimated that Paul is worth a cool £1.4 million, meaning he is not the wealthiest Chaser – that title goes to The Dark Destroyer, Shaun Wallace.

The former barrister is said to be worth £5 million.
