TV and radio broadcaster Richard Bacon has become well-known for his life on screen.
The Good Morning Britain presenter recently surprised fans of the show with his bare legs on Christmas Eve. The presenter turned up to the gig with the regular suit and jacket, but with bare legs and slippers on his bottom half.
With years of TV behind him, Richard has made a name for himself and is a recognisable face to many.
He’s had public slip-ups and personal troubles, but has bounced back every time.
Here’s everything you need to know about Richard Bacon, from his wealthy family to personal battles.
What is Richard Bacon’s net worth and how did he make his money?
Richard grew up in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire and was born in November 1975.
The presenter has recently become known for a career abroad where he is a presenter and executive producer. It is believed that this has added significantly to his fortune, estimated by Celebrity Net Worth to be over £3.7 million.
He began his career locally, making the tea at BBC Radio Nottingham and went on to spend three years working at the station as a news reporter.
In 1996, Richard joined L!ve TV as a reporter and this was a role that saw him banned from the State Opening of Parliament, as well as having beer thrown over him by Blur singer Damon Albarn outside a nightclub.
Richard’s career became a little controversial after he moved to the Blue Peter studio alongside the likes of Konnie Huq, but his time with the famous badge ended early after a News of the World report showed he’d been using cocaine.
At the time, Richard said: “I fully accept and agree with the decision that has been taken. I regret what I did but it was in my personal time and I therefore hope that it does not reflect on the show. I am very grateful to Blue Peter for the opportunity it has given me and am very sorry that I have let everybody down.”
Richard’s career survived the setback and has appeared on a whole range of programmes including Richard Bacon’s Beer & Pizza Club on ITV4, The Wright Stuff and a show on BBC Radio 5 Live. He left the station in 2014.
What TV shows is Richard Bacon behind?
Richard has pursued a career in the United States and is reported to be living in Los Angeles.
He presented for National Geographic Channel, a show in 2016 that saw him hiking through Yosemite National Park with President Barack Obama.
He is behind the US gameshow The Hustler, originally turned down by the BBC, but picked up by American network ABC.
A more recent show, I Literally Just Told You is a playful comedy game show hosted by Jimmy Carr, all about people’s short-term memory.
He told The Guardian that he had the idea for the show while attending a lecture given by Professor Brian Cox.
He said: “I remember thinking: ‘Nobody in this theatre could remember most of what he said in just the last five minutes.’
“Why don’t we just do a show where we give people the answers and they’ll still get them wrong?”
Is Richard Bacon married?
Richard is married to Rebecca McFarlane and the couple got married in 2008. She is the daughter of former Barclays chairman John McFarlane. They have two children, Arthur, born in 2011 and Ivy, born in 2014.
Richard has battled addiction troubles in the past. The presenter revealed that a doctor once said that his wife’s steadying influence had ‘kept him alive’.
The former Blue Peter man also had a near-death experience in 2018, where he was put into an induced coma from pneumonia. The doctors treating the stricken star at one point believed he was going to die.
He said: “It’s probably affecting my life all the time. If you’re going to take death from being theoretical to something more real, almost touchable, it must be affecting me, my work, and my relationship to my kids, my relationship to my wife and my family. It must be.”
