The Crow was supposed to be the film that made the career of Brandon Lee.
He began his career in the early 90s and was due to debut as Eric Draven in fantasy film.
However, the son of Bruce Lee’s life was tragically cut short at age 28 years old during the film’s production after he was fatally shot by a prop gun in March 1993.
The Los Angeles Times reported at the time that the actor was fatally killed by a .44-caliber bullet when co-star Michael Massee fired a prop gun that he believed to be loaded with blanks.
It was later discovered that a fragment of a dummy shell had been left in the gun’s barrel and Lee died in hospital after surgery.
After an investigation, The New York Times reported that it was concluded that no criminal charges would be made and that while negligence was a factor in the event, there was no evidence of criminal wrongdoing.
Massee spoke to Extra TV in 2005: “What happened to Brandon was a tragic accident. It’s something I’m going to live with … It took me the time it took to be able to not so much put it in perspective but to be able to move on with my life”
“It’s very personal. It’s something that I wanna make sure when I work that it’s never repeated. Therefore, I’m very conscious of things going awry on set.”
Brandon’s family have spoken out following the news that Halyna Hutchins was killed and director Joel Souza was injured after actor Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun and caused the two incidents.
Everyone involved was on set of the movie Rust, starring Baldwin, when the prop gun was shot.
Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office said that 42-year-old Hutchins was pronounced dead at the University of New Mexico Hospital.
Joel Souza, 48, was taken to Christus St. Vincent’s Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Brandon’s name has begun circulating on social media after the incident as fans and followers noticed parallels between the two tragic events.
His official Twitter page, run by his sister Shannon Lee, spoke out about Hutchin’s death, tweeting: “Our hearts go out to the family of Halyna Hutchins and to Joel Souza and all involved in the incident on “Rust”.
“No one should ever be killed by a gun on a film set. Period.”
