Jake Wood fans convinced he is making switch from EastEnders to Corrie

EastEnders star Jake Wood has thrown fans into chaos with a cryptic Instagram post, leaving them convinced he’s ditched Albert Square for the coveted cobbles of Coronation Street.

The 48-year-old shared a picture of himself sipping from a Coronation Street mug to his Instagram account on Saturday.

The mug was adorned with snaps from the legendary ITV soap, including one of Steve McDonald with his arms around then-wife Becky, with a red-brick background.

Jake captioned the puzzling picture: “Morning all. Can’t beat a cup of tea first thing.”

And fans are absolutely convinced he could soon be making the switch to Coronation Street.

“What is this? Don’t be a traitor Max” one commented, referencing his Eastenders character Max Branning.

Another said: “Subliminal message…”

And someone else asked: “Hint or not (laughing emoji) what about Eastenders mug or is this a sign you’re going onto Corrie? We need you back on Eastenders please.”

A fourth wrote: “Is that a clue lol.”

And another joked: “Is that from Roy’s Rolls?”

Jake played the role of bad boy Max from 2006 until 2021, but he also popped up in Albert Square for two episodes in 1990 as Jackson, who met Diane Butcher when she was sleeping rough.

He left the role in February, as his character left granddaughter Abi in the care of Rainie and headed off to the Tube station alone.

Jake wrote on Instagram at the time: “I have loved playing Max Branning who amongst other things in that time has had 4 marriages, 10 affairs, 4 children (2 dying from falling from the roof of The Queen Vic), been buried alive, watched unwanted DVDs at Xmas and perhaps most traumatising of all… shared a hot tub with Ian Beale.

“I have made some truly great friends whilst on the show and I’ll miss everyone there.

“I’m grateful they have left the door open for Max and I’m excited to see what new horizons are around the corner.

When he was quizzed on what the future has in store for him, Jake said: “Just homeschooling. No one might ever offer me a job again. This might be the last time you see me on screen. I might just slip off and open a shop somewhere. Or become a farmer. I quite fancy that.”
