Sean Connery’s younger brother Neil has died aged 82 after long illness, it has been confirmed.
The sad news comes just seven months after the James Bond star’s sudden death.
He appeared alongside brother Sean in spoof Operation Kid Brother in 1967.
In a tribute post, family friend Steve Begg said: “He looked and sounded like his big bro.”
He leaves his wife Eleanor, plus two daughters Martine and Leone.
Like his world famous sibling, he too had a gravelly rasp to his voice and was a well-respect actor.
“My good friend and Edinburgh drinking buddy Neil Connery passed away early this morning I’m sad to report,” his pal Begg said in a fun-filled post.
“He considered me a lacklustre challenge when it came to the drinking stakes but I considered him with respect.
“Going out with him was always interesting to say the leasht. Mish you Neil.”
George Lazenby, who played James Bond in 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, paid tribute to him on Twitter.
He said Connery will “join his great brother”.
It was reported that film icon Sean once gifted his younger brother a new Jaguar.
James Bond’s twitter fan page also paid tribute to him following news of his death.
A message from the group read: “We are sad to report that Neil Connery, younger brother of Sean and who starred in 1967’s James Bond spoof Operation Kid Brother, passed away yesterday morning (May 10) at the age of 83 following a long illness. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
Sir Sean died from pneumonia and heart failure in his sleep aged 90, according to his birth certificate.
Last year, Neil’s wife Eleanor revealed how upset her husband had been following his brother’s death.
His sense of loss was “compounded” at not being able to travel to be at his brother’s side in his final hours.
She said last year: “He’s just very upset at losing his only brother.
“He would’ve gone but, of course, given the times we’re in, nobody can travel anywhere for any reason so that’s upsetting too.”
