Jamie Dornan’s father doctor Professor Jim Dornan has died after contracting coronavirus aged 73.
The obstetrician and gynaecologist reportedly died after battling Covid-19.
Professor Dornan chaired Fetal Medicine at Queen’s University Belfast and Health & Life Sciences at the Ulster University.
Chair of Division of Clinical Psychology NI, Nichola Rooney, shared a statement on Twitter after Dornan’s death.
She wrote: “The great Prof Jim Dornan. One of a kind. His glass brimmed over.
“A true visionary. Early 90’s he saw the benefit that Clinical Psychology could bring to the women in RMJH & made it happen. My friend. RIP. Love to Samina, Liesa, Jess & Jamie.”

Professor Dornan was a celebrated obstetrician and gynaecologist in the medical field and he gave lectures internationally on his work.
During his career, Dornan was a professor of Foetal Medicine at Queen’s University Belfast from 1995 to 2012.
He was also senior vice-president of the Royal College of Gynaecologists from 2004 to 2006.
Tributes have poured in for Jim Dornan after his tragic death.

One Twitter user said: “Unbelievably sad news about Professor Jim Dornan. Such an ambassador for Northern Ireland and a shining light in the medical world. A truly lovely man. Deepest sympathies to Samina and his whole family.”
While another penned: “Such a sad and awful news to give today. Jamie’s father, Jim Dornan, passed away after having suffered of Covid-19. Our prayers goes to the whole Dornan family during this terrible time.”
“It is with much sadness that I am writing that Professor Jim Dornan has died. Hard to accept that someone with so much life, wit, and full of advice and laughter has left this world. A true friend. Thoughts are with his family and medical friends around the world. RIP Jim.”, added a third.

Like his actor son Jamie, Jim has landed some roles in acting himself.
He played a policeman in hit television show The Fall where his son Jamie took on the haunting role of a serial killer.
Jim also appeared in ITV drama Marcella starring Anna Friel.
He is survived by his three children, Liesa, Jessica, and Jamie, and his wife Samina.
