Jennifer Aniston didn’t have the easiest time in the early noughties, and the Friends Reunion forced her to be reminded of all that was going on before the show wrapped.
From 2004 to 2005, Jen faced the breakdown of her marriage to Brad Pitt and his new romance with his Mr & Mrs Smith co-star Angelina Jolie.
While Jennifer and Brad have remained on good terms since they parted ways, cracks started to show in 2004, before their eventual split in January 2005.
However, it seems that alongside Jen’s eventual split from Brad, she was struggling in her final weeks on the set of Friends, confessing that being back on the show reminded her of the “hardest time” in her life.
The Friends finale was filmed in January 2004, one year before the star split with Brad and the same month that he began filming with Angelina.
Jennifer hasn’t explicitly revealed her struggles in the January of 2004, but she confessed that there was a lot going on which “sucked”.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Jen said: “I think we were just so naive walking into [The Friends Reunion], thinking, ‘How fun is this going to be? They’re putting the sets together, exactly as they were.’
“Then you get there and it’s like, ‘Oh right, I hadn’t thought about what was going on the last time I was actually here.'”
She said it took her by surprise, adding: “It was like, ‘Hi, past, remember me? Remember how that sucked? You thought everything was in front of you and like was going to be just gorgeous and then you went through maybe the hardest time in your life?”
Jennifer described it all as “very jarring” and said she had to walk out at certain points, adding: “I don’t know how they cut around it.”
She added: “We all had an idea of what the future was going to be and we were going to hunker down and focus on this or that and then it all just changed overnight, and that was it.”
However the star noted that if it hadn’t happened, she wouldn’t be the woman she is today.
Ultimately, despite walking off a number of times, Jennifer was happy to reunite with her former co-stars for their reunion, and the cast were all able to speak to James Michael Tyler one last time.
The actor devastatingly died months after the reunion at 59-years-old following a battle with cancer.
Tributes poured in from the cast and fans as they celebrated his stint on the show as Gunther.
