Jimmy Carr savagely says that Cheryl 'dodged a bullet' by not dating Prince Harry

Jimmy Carr made a savage joke about Prince Harry when he said that Cheryl “dodged a bullet” by not dating the former senior royal.

The comedian and 8 Out Of 10 Cats host recalled the time he met the Duke and the former Girls Aloud singer when he appeared on BBC’s The One Show during Friday night’s episode (1 October).

Jimmy dished out the royal gossip to host Harry Judd, who shot to fame in pop band McFly, and Harry’s co-star Lauren Laverne, who was making her presenting debut on the BBC chat show.

Radio 6 DJ Lauren had told Jimmy: “I’ve got to ask about the Diamond Jubilee 2012.”

Jimmy had been invited to host the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert, which took place outside Buckingham Palace on 4 June 2012 as part of Queen Elizabeth’s II’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

The star-studded event, which saw Jimmy perform in front of the Queen herself, was held to commemorate sixty years since the Queen had ascended to the throne back in February 1952.

Jimmy revealed that he had jokingly tried to play matchmaker with Prince Harry and Cheryl at a celeb party which took place afterwards at the palace.

Beginning his story, Jimmy said: “So we’re at the party later on, like in the palace, Buckingham Palace, getting hammered, having a brilliant time.”

Jimmy went on to explain that he went up to Prince Harry after the royal had just finished giving an interview and had been complaining that nobody wanted to be his girlfriend.

Jimmy went on: “I went up to Prince Harry, because Prince Harry had just done this interview, going ‘no-one wants to be my girlfriend’ – he was single at the time – ‘No-one wants to be my girlfriend because no-one wants the pressure’.

“And I was going ‘yeah because famously girls don’t want to be princesses, sure.”

He later explained that he’d been teasing Cheryl all day, and decided to play a bit of a prank on the singer by inviting Harry over as if Jimmy had been playing wingman with the two.

He continued: “I’d been teasing Cheryl Cole all day and so I went ‘Harry, would you mind, just as a gag, I’ve been teasing her all day that I’m going to match-make you two. Would you mind coming over?

“And he went ‘yeah, great’.”

Jimmy then added: “Of course, he had the last laugh, it turns out it’s quite a lot of pressure being his wife. I think Cheryl dodged a bullet there, I’ll be honest with you.”

Harry started up a relationship with U.S. actress Meghan Markle in July 2016, and they announced their engagement in November 2017.

They tied the knot at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on 19 May 2018.

The pair reside in Los Angeles where they look after their son Archie, two, and their baby daughter Lilibet.

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One and BBCiPlayer.
