Joanna Lumley reveals she’s working on new travel documentary as she films in Rome

Joanna Lumley has confirmed that she’s filming a new travel documentary and is set to fly to Rome to film one of them.

The showbiz icon is famed for her role in the beloved comedy Absolutely Fabulous, but she’s also a prolific travel presenter who’s fronted a ton of travel documentaries over the years.

Speaking to Daily Star at the Pride of Britain awards, Joanna revealed that she’s currently in the middle of doing three documentaries, one of which she’s filming in Rome.

She said: “I’m in the middle of doing three documentaries at the moment. I’m flying off to Rome to film the third part of the third one.”

When asked how it feels to be fronting a new travel documentary, she said that she still loves it.

She said: “Oh it’s lovely. I love it. They’re travel shows. I do a lot of travel shows and this is a continuation.”

She then joked that her fans must be bored of watching her launch travel shows by now after having done so many over the years.

She quipped: “The viewers are probably fed up with me because they’ve seen [so many of her travel shows]”.

It comes as Joanna has released two travel shows already this year, including Joanna Lumley’s Home Sweet Home and Joanna Lumley and the Human Swan.

Home Sweet Home, or Travels in My Own Land, takes Joanna on a tour of Britain and is available on ITV.

The Human Swan looks at issues like plastic waste on the country’s beaches and coastal erosion.

Tragically, it follows the death of Joanna’s co-star cameraman Dan Burton, who passed away in a paramotoring accident in the Scottish Highlands in September.

The horror accident took place during filming for the documentary as conservationist Sacha Dench attempted a 3,000 mile journey around Britain in an electric paramotor.

Joanna told the Radio Times: “We’ve all encountered sudden death, and the sense of disbelief – you can’t quite process it.

“I couldn’t believe Dan would be [with us] no more.”

Joanna – who wasn’t there when the accident took place – said Dan’s family insisted that they finish the film.

She added that one of her shows is airing on Monday (1 November).

The Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards, in partnership with TSB, will broadcast on ITV on 4th November at 8pm.
