Joel Dommett planning to have 'worst hangover of his life' after presenting NTAs

Joel Dommett is planning a big booze-up at the National Television Awards – and the biggest hangover of his life.

The star, 36, is hosting this year’s bash and is so thrilled about it he wants to have a huge celebration after the show.

He told the Daily Star Sunday: “I will be emotional afterwards. I’m trying not to get too emotional before because I don’t want it to affect me.

“It just helps me deal with the nerves better. But it will definitely be a really emotional evening for so many reasons.

“I’m sure I will enjoy myself and let my hair down. I am already fearing the hangover.

“I’ll probably be the drunkest boy in the room. I think it will be the worst hangover I’ve ever had!”

Joel is planning to go all out to mark the National Television Awards next week

The National Television Awards is one of the biggest ceremonies of the year with an A-list audience.

And Joel is following in the footsteps of former hosts Dermot O’Leary, Sir Trevor McDonald and David Walliams.

He said: “I still can’t believe it to be honest. I think it is absolutely mad

“I don’t think it will sink in until I’ve said, ‘Thank you very much for watching, this has been the NTAs, my name is Joel Dommett, good night’.

“It really is mind-blowing. To be mentioned in the same breath as Sir Trevor McDonald is like a dream come true.

“They have all been so nice with advice and support. It’s such a cool job.”

Meanwhile, whilst Joel has become a huge presenter in the UK, he missed out on the Most Popular Presenter category, missing out to Alison Hammond, Bradley Walsh, Holly Willoughby and Piers Morgan.

However, Joel told the Mirror he wasn’t worried about missing out, saying: “I’m honestly not bothered – I’m hosting the event, so I feel like I’ve already won.

“Ant & Dec will be going for a 20th consecutive win, which is just insane.

“You have to think they are favourites but you never know. I love the fact that Alison Hammond has made the cut this year. She deserves it.”

The awards will air live on Thursday at 7.30pm on ITV.
