Kate Garraway and kids getaway to Cornwall while family tend to Derek Draper

There are not many people out there that deserve a holiday more than Kate Garraway after the year she and her family have faced.

And it looks like she has made it after posting on Instagram that children Darcey, 15, and Billy, 11, her parents and Kate have been in Cornwall enjoying a break over half term.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 54, posted a beautiful video of her family playing football in a garden as the sunsets over the sea.

As well as her two children Kate has been able to reunite with family members that she has not seen in over six months including her “brother, aunts, uncles, cousins and new baby cousins”.

Husband Derek Draper, 53, stayed at home and is being looked after by his parents and nurses.

Since his terrible bout of Covid where he spent over a year in hospital, Derek has needed round-the-clock care.

In the Instagram post Kate wrote: “#paradise Thanks to the wonderful mum dad & sisters draper for coming down to be with Derek (with nurses too ofcourse) so I could take my mum dad , Darcey & Billy to Cornwall.

“And thanks so so much to @peugeotuk for lending us a car to get us there! We got to see my brother aunts uncles cousins & new baby cousins!

“None of us have been able to get to see each other since Xmas 2019 . So much love & v emotional – not that it made our annual football match any less competitive!!!

“Hope you have all had a great #halfterm xxx #specialmemories”

Derek tested positive for Covid at the start of the pandemic in March 2020 leaving him hospitalised for over a year.

Appearing on the Andrew Mar Show in May Kate said: “He came home on April the 7th so we’re a few weeks into it now. How is he? Look, he’s devastated by Covid.

“He can’t really move, his communication is very minimal. There are moments where there’s up, you feel you know he’s in there. He has a lot of memory.

“But the accessing of it is very limited. He’s a long way from the Derek Draper that you know Andrew but he’s home and he’s alive, he’s asleep now.”
