Good Morning Britain star Kate Garraway has revealed that she’s been feeling low since Christmas as her husband Derek Draper remains in hospital following his horrific coronavirus battle.
The 53-year-old presenter returned to the GMB studio on Thursday morning and she updated Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on how she’s been doing.
Kate admitted: “It’s been a strange time. I’ve been a bit low since Christmas.
“Kind go physically low and sort of feel physically at the end of my tether.
“This week a friend of mine’s mother-in-law, who’s 51 so younger than me, died from Covid.”
A teary Kate added: “She got it at Christmas and she went down very quickly and died.
“I can’t believe here we are so far on Derek’s still ravaged form the effects of Covid from way back in March.
“His recovery his incredibly certain. I’m trying to look for new thing and new ways and things I can do for him.
“Meanwhile, people are still dying in extraordinary numbers and it’s just unbearable.
Kate logged into her official Instagram page on Wednesday evening to announce that she’s releasing a book detailing what she’s been going through in recent times.
Speaking about her new project, Kate explained: “You both have called me in inspiration so I thought if I could tell my story about the people who have helped me then maybe that would be helpful for people.”
Susanna, 50, praised her pal and co-star for putting pen to paper and sharing her story with the world.
She said: “We know the hell that you are going through. But you still turn up all the time – and I don’t just mean for work.
“You’ve still got your sense of humour.”
Kate added: “The book is not a completely written I must admit. I am about a third a way through it.”
Sharing a photograph of her new book on Instagram on Wednesday, Kate penned: “Hello everyone – I’ve not been on here for a while as I’ve been taking time to gather myself and focus like everyone else on getting through this latest lockdown.
“The pandemic is far from over and so is Derek’s journey but I have decided to share our story and what’s helping to keep me going, as we all try to work out what our new futures will look like.
“I am really hoping that it will help you with all that you are going through. You can pre-order your copy of The Power of Hope from Amazon.”
Derek, 53, is still in hospital after Covid-19 made him lose eight stone, develop diabetes and suffer holes in his lungs and heart.
