Kate Garraway has given a fresh update on her husband Derek Draper’s year long battle with Covid.
Derek was hospitalised in March 2020 with the virus and while he is now free from Covid, the illness has caused havoc on his organs.
Speaking on Monday’s edition of Good Morning Britain, Kate explained how Derek is now living at home.
She added that he returned to the family house last week due to ‘medical reasons’.
Kate said: “Derek came home on Wednesday evening and yes, we kind of feel over the moon and overwhelmed in equal measures.
“It is quite an overwhelming responsibility.

The mum-of-two added: “It was a medical reason for coming home, as well as obviously our desire and I’m sure his desire too, to try and encourage a more normal environment to stimulate his recovery, cognition, and consciousness better.
“It is a very unique situation so they’re trying to find unique solutions.”
Kate first revealed the happy news on Friday – but decided to keep the reasons for the sudden move private.

Last month Kate shared her emotional year with the nation via her ITV documentary Kate Garraway: Finding Derek.
The special showed the TV host trying to juggle life as a working mum and also renovate the home for when Derek was allowed to return.
Previously speaking to The Sunday Times, Kate admitted at once point she didn’t know if Derek would even be discharged.

Kate said: “The very worst moment was when they said he could be locked in forever. And I just thought this is a horror story.
“I don’t know if he’ll ever have any kind of life again. We just don’t know. The change in his body is shocking.”
It’s understood that his kidneys have failed and he has suffered serious damage to his liver and his pancreas.
On top of that, he also is said to have ‘holes is in his heart’.
In a shocking revelation, Kate added she feared Derek has passed away after a hospital mix up.
She recalled to the publication that she was left “just sitting on the phone waiting to know if he’d died or not” in the early stages of his Covid battle.
Kate explained how a hospital worker told her: “He may have died. Somebody will call you back.”
She added: “Then it turned out that somebody had died who had a similar name to his.”
