Katie Price 'feels too fragile to face court' and alleged assault 'could be dropped'

Katie Price has reportedly told friends she “cannot face” a court appearance as she is “too mentally fragile”.

The 43-year-old has claimed she was the victim of a physical assault in Essex in the early hours of Monday morning.

Katie was taken to hospital with a suspected fractured jaw and split lip as well as bruising.

A man in his 30s has been released on bail after being arrested on suspicion of assault, theft and coercive and controlling behaviour following an alleged altercation.

Katie allegedly does not want to retract her statement but believes herself to be “too mentally fragile” to be grilled.

A friend of Katie has said the former model is concerned for her mental health if she has to go to court for another high-profile hearing, according to The Sun.

Speaking to The Sun, a friend reportedly said: “This is a nightmare situation for Katie.

“She absolutely stands by her account of events of that night given to police, but upon reflection isn’t sure she’s mentally strong enough to go through yet another court appearance.

“She doesn’t want to be dragged through the mill, and her private life scrutinised by all and sundry. Katie doesn’t see any other way out.”

A police spokesman told the publication: “We have a duty of care to gather all evidence relating to this case and our inquiries continue.”

Katie is reportedly “too upset” to return home after the altercation, and is believed to be staying with friends to recuperate from the alleged traumatic experience.

The Daily Star has approached Katie’s representatives for comment.

She has already faced a string of courtroom dramas.

Last year she was ordered to pay £25,000 in damages to her ex-husband Alex Reid after leaking details of their sex life.

She has also been banned from driving six times, and three years ago was caught driving while disqualified.

Last year she was warned that she could face prison if she did not turn up at court for a bankruptcy hearing.
