Ex-Atomic Kitten and I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! jungle queen Kerry Katona admitted she would ‘definitely go back in’ if there were talks of a special 20th anniversary series
Kerry, who won the show in 2004, is quite the mogul when it comes to the jungle madness, and she’s been looking on her time on the show so fondly, that she would love to take part again.
Speaking to Daily Star in an exclusive chat with reporter Carly Hacon, she said she would definitely go back on the show – and even had a great idea about how to make it happen.
With the 20th anniversary of the show just around the corner, Kerry hopes that bosses will pull something wild at the bag – like an all star series.
She said: “I’ll definitely go back in. I thought, 20 year anniversary, they might do an all stars with the king and queens.” Kerry also agreed that it would boost the ratings from this year.
However, one thing that is keeping her a little sceptical is her reigning title, which she could lose if she didn’t win the show once again as she declared: “I wouldn’t want to lose my crown!”
Kerry was with her first husband Brian McFadden when she was offered to enter the jungle in 2004 and revealed that she had to employ the help of a celebrity friend to convince her now ex-husband to let her go in.
She said: “It was actually Louis Walsh who convinced him to let me go in. It was actually my auntie who was meeting me, but he flew out.”
Kerry confessed that she was glad she didn’t let Brian hold her back as she went on to win the series.
She opened up about how much the win meant to her considering her rough start in life: “For me, the person who I am, I was such a needy person and desperate to be loved. I was a child in a foster home and winning, I think it was about 12 million viewers?
“I felt so, so loved by the viewers […] I felt so, so much love, what an amazing experience.”
Despite the drop in ratings and technical mishaps this year’s series has experienced, Kerry said that she has watched every episode but is disappointed by the lack of drama compared to previous seasons.
She said: “Everyone’s being too nice at the minute, they were all able to have a full meal before they left. I’m A Celebrity is to get people at their worst and when people are starving that’s when all the drama happens.”
“There’s always that one villain and we don’t have that this year. Obviously Naughty Boy’s a bit odd, he hasn’t got a rush in his bones but he’s not a nasty person, he’s a really lovely bloke!”
She went on to praise contestant Richard Madeley who recently left the castle due to health issues: “What I loved about Richard, when he was in there, he gave you a full run down of everything he was doing. He was so vocal that you felt like you were there with him in the moment.”
