Reality star Khloe Kardashian could potentially lose millions of dollars in future earnings, due to the way she handled the unfolding crisis following her unedited picture leak.
This week, Khloe, 36, received criticism for her abrupt approach when an unedited photo of herself was leaked on the internet.
Soon after the leak, the star became the centre of several discussions regarding photo-editing, unflattering holiday snaps and the colossal task of desperately trying to remove something from the internet with immediate effect.
Speaking to The Mirror, PR expert Rob Cooper says Khloe’s next steps are critical after she lashed out, adding: “The pressure, the constant ridicule and judgment my entire life to be perfect and admitted that it is often too much to bear at times.
For years, both Khloe and her younger entrepreneur sister Kylie Jenner have spoken about the constant scrutiny that comes with being in the limelight and the impact that it can have on their body confidence.
But many have suggested that the reality stars have also commercialised from the very scrutiny that they’ve received.
In 2016 Khloe launched her brand, Good American jeans company.
The aim of the brand is to be inclusive and to offer jeans that cater to all sizes, but Rob believes her latest social media stunt could impact her brands.
Rob explained: “The reason Khloe will be panicking about her unedited image going viral online is likely to be more to do with the impact it will have on her brand than any self-confidence issues.”
“Frustratingly for Khloe, by trying to have the unedited bikini shot removed from the internet she has created something called the ‘Streisand effect’. This is when a person tries to remove or suppress images online, but by doing so they create more unwanted attention which then heightens the publicity for the image.”
Rob continued: “One of the biggest mistakes I think Khloe may have made is justifying to herself that heavily editing your images on social media is no different to when images are airbrushed on the covers of magazines.”
He explained that Khloe, who has 136million followers on her Instagram has fans that look up to her and want to see reality instead they are being presented with cleverly crafted images.
As a result, Rob believes that Khloe will in fact lose her followers due to her recent publicised stunt.
To showcase her “real” body, Khloe broke her silence on the matter by posing almost nude.
The star said: “I love a good filter, good lighting and an edit here and there.
“My body, my image and how I choose to look and what I share is my choice. It’s not for anyone to decide or judge what is acceptable or not anymore.”
