Kim Kardashian has 'no plans to ditch West name' after Kanye divorce is finalised

Kim Kardashian has no plans to remove West from her surname following her whirlwind divorce from rapper Kanye West, reports say.

The 40-year-old Keeping Up With The Kardashians star is expected to retain her former husband’s last name to protect her children, as she thinks it’s “important” to have the same name as her kids.

Kim and Kanye, 44, are parents to four children – their daughters North, eight, and Chicago, three, and their sons Saint, five, and Psalm, two.

Sources told TMZ that the mum-of-four will keep Kardashian West as her surname, rather than scrapping it and returning to her maiden name Kardashian.

The sources also claimed that she fully supports Kanye’s recent decision to legally change his name to Ye.

All of the former couple’s children share the surname of West, and Kim wants to maintain a “strong family unit”.

A lawyer for US rapper Kanye has filed a petition to change Kanye’s name from his birth name Kanye Omari West to Ye, according to The Blast.

It’s believed Kanye expressed “personal reasons” as the motivation behind his choice to change his name in legal documents.

Hit-maker Kanye has used the nickname Ye for years in public, with the star going by the name on Twitter and even naming his eight studio name Ye.

According to TMZ, the legal filing was made in Los Angeles, with the outlet suggesting Kanye will have to wait for a judge to approve the request.

Kanye previously asked fans to call him ye back in 2018, when he tweeted: “The being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE.”

Discussing his eight studio album and his Ye name during a radio interview that year, he said: “I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible it means “you,” so I’m you, I’m us, it’s us.

“It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye – just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything. The album is more of a reflection of who we are.”

It was confirmed that Kim and Kanye were divorcing earlier this year, back in February.

Kim filed for divorce from her ex-husband after almost seven years of marriage and rumours of a split – with the star citing ‘irreconcilable difference’ on the papers.

The pair have stayed on good terms since, and Kim has been spotted at listening parties for Kanye’s upcoming album.

Sources at the time alleged the split was amicable, and that the parents were planning on sharing joint legal and physical custody of their children.
