Newsreader Kirsty Gallacher has announced she is stepping back from GB News, after sharing the news of a tumour diagnosis in her ear with fans.
She revealed to her 429,000 followers how she discovered the tumour in her ear canal earlier this summer and she revealed her illness online.
The 45-year-old reassured her loyal legion of fans that the tumour itself is benign and has not been “hugely detrimental to my normal life”.
But in recent months, the broadcaster has struggled to cope with the side effects of the tumour and has made the decision to temporarily take a break from her role on the Great British Breakfast show.
In a lengthy post on Twitter, the mum-of-two explained her absence on the popular morning show and her plans to help improve her recovery for the foreseeable future.
She penned: “During the summer I discovered I have a tumour in the inner canal of my right ear.
“Thankfully, it’s benign and not hugely detrimental to my normal life.
“However, the tumour has caused severe tinnitus which makes it very difficult to sleep.
Kirsty added: “Sadly, my 3am starts at GB News, compounded by sleep deprivation, are exacerbating my symptoms.
“I’ve taken the difficult decision to step back from my role on the Great British Breakfast while I focus on my health.
“GB News has been incredibly supportive of me and I look forward to returning to the channel as soon as I can.”
She went on: “As I adjust to managing my condition, I will carry on my less disruptive work commitments and continue maintaining a healthy lifestyle and training so I can get back to my normal routine quickly. Kirsty x”.
GB News also took to their official Twitter account to confirm Kirsty would be taking a leave of absence from her role on the show.
The wrote: “Wishing you all the best @TheRealKirstyG and good luck with your recovery, from all your friends at GB News.”
The TV presenter was soon flooded with get well soon messages from her famous friends and loving fans online.
