Kristen Stewart says she has one regret after applying Princess Diana in the upcoming Spencer film.
The star, who plays the Princess of Wales during the Christmas season in 1991, says there was one element she couldn’t fully connect with her character over.
The Twilight actress says she felt “disloyal” over playing an anguished Diana as she joins the royal family over the festive period.
She told The Daily Mail that she regretted she wasn’t a mum yet.
And added: “It’s the one part of playing her that I felt disloyal about.”
Princess Di’s sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, also feature in the movie and were aged 15 and 12 at the time of her death in 1997.
Stewart spent extra time forming a bond with the actors who play the royal brothers, Jack Nielsen and Freddie Spry, on set.
She said the film’s director wanted the mother and sons to be like a “three-headed animal in a bubble”, speaking of their relationship.
The star believes the People’s Princess was most “untouchable” when she was with her two children.
She said: “She’s like this feral animal you wouldn’t dare accost.”
Stewart also told the LA Times: “Any picture or interview I’ve ever seen of her, there’s an explosive, ground-shaking quality to her that I always feel like you never really know what’s going to happen.
“Even when she’s walking the red carpet, it just feels a little bit scary.
“That could be projection, because we all know what happened. But she just has this feral cat feel. So I wanted to convey that. There’s no way to plan chaos. You just have to fall into it.”
Stewart also noted that Diana was “a huge contradiction, the weirdest combination of things that don’t necessarily go together all the time.”
However, royal fans have been outraged over the portrayal of the princess in the film.
Experts and fans slammed the movie and claimed it stripped Diana of “respect and dignity.”
Editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, Ingrid Seward, said: “It is really cruel to portray her like this. It is totally unnecessary.
“William and Harry will be very angry and hurt about this. They will find it horrible that their mother is being portrayed in such a huge movie this way.”
