Line of Duty season 6 comes to a close tonight, after another nail-biting series.
Many people believe we will finally discover the identity of the Fourth Man, also known as H – so will the show continue after such a major mystery is revealed?
More people than ever have tuned in to watch the BBC drama, with the penultimate episode drawing in an average 11 million viewers.
It also beat Doctor Who to become the UK’s highest-rtes TV drama in 13 years.
With this in mind you might be thinking a seventh season is a no-brainer, but unfortunately, the future of the show is still not decided.
Here is what we know so far.
Will there be a Line of Duty season 7?
Line of Duty hasn’t officially been renewed yet for another season, but show creator Jed Mercurio “hopes” there will be.
He told Radio Times: “We’re in a situation where it’s not entirely clear that there will be a seventh series.
“We would hope there could be. But we’re having to do our planning coming out of Covid, and a whole bunch of other things, around the idea that these things aren’t guaranteed at all now.”
Mercurio added: “Since probably season four, we’ve been talking to the BBC about the realistic longevity of the series. I’ve experienced broadcasters pulling the plug while we were still developing a storyline.
“So it’s an ongoing discussion, is all I can say. A lot depends on the key creatives – me and the main actors – finding new stories to tell within that universe.”
The tagline for episode seven has led fans to believe this could be where all loose threads will be tied up.

It reads: “Every investigation has led to this.”
However, Martin Compton, who plays Steve Arnott, said: “I think with Jed, there’s always potential for it to go on. He could always start on a new case, there’s always anti-corruption out there, as he would say.”
Line of Duty season 7 release date
If there was to be a Line of Duty season 7, it would most likely be released in early 2023.
There has been a two-year gap between the past few seasons.
And since season three, it has started airing in March.
But it’s worth keeping in mind that season six was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
So depending on how the coronavirus pandemic affects filming going forward, we might not have to wait two full years.
