DCI Patricia Carmichael is set to make a comeback on Line of Duty.
The cop, played by Anna Maxwell Martin, will return in this Sunday’s episode.
It is set to spark even more drama on the hit show.
DCI Carmichael is an arch-enemy of AC-12 boss Ted Hastings.
And it seems she could be out for his job.
Superintendent Hastings has been told his department is being closed by police chiefs and he has been ordered to retire early.
A show spokeswoman has hinted DCI Carmichael’s return will mean more bad news for him.
She said: “With Ted’s forced retirement looming, is Carmichael in position to take control? And with the restructure of the anti-corruption units, is this the end of AC-12?”
DCI Carmichael and Superintendent Hastings faced off at the end of the fifth series at a tense interview.
In dramatic scenes, she grilled him about his integrity and it almost ended his career.
TV actress Anna reprised her role as DCI Carmichael after top-secret talks with bosses.
Her scenes were filmed on location late last year.
Speaking about her return for the first time, she warned her character won’t hold back.
She said: “Pat’s back… I can’t remember what she’s doing there, nor would I be allowed to blab, but suffice to say she’s got some new clobber and she’s ready to bust some balls.”
Anna is known to viewers for roles on Motherland and Bleak House.
Watch her comeback on Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.
