As the cast of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! rely on the charm of David Ginola to get them through the chilly weather, ex-contestant Lisa Snowdon says staying calm is key to surviving the show.
It comes as 2021 contestant Naughty Boy has threatened more than once to quit the show.
This Morning’s fashion expert took part in the 2016 series and meditated her way through to cope with the creepie-crawlies with the help of wellness guru Deepak Chopra.
Lisa says: “I read a lot of Deepak’s books and listened to his apps.
“He goes through the alphabet and says A is for abundance, B is for… So I would sometimes have this little chant in my head.
“I’d try to remember all the things he said and zone in on that to keep my spirits lifted.
“I felt quite lonely in there because it’s a long day. You miss contact with people you love.
“As great as the other campmates are, they’re not family or close friends.
“I’d go into meditation when there were spiders and rats, zone out and tell myself, ‘This isn’t going to kill me’.”
Former model Lisa is backing ex-Saturdays singer turned Loose Woman Frankie Bridge to follow Giovanna Fletcher in becoming the queen of Abergele’s Gwrych Castle.
She says: “I am team Frankie all the way because she’s a mate.
“I was in the camp with her husband Wayne, so when I heard she was going into the castle I was like, ‘What?!’
“I would much prefer to be in Australia. No offence to Wales, but this time of the year…
“It’s a super fun experience and you have to throw yourself into it and go for it.
“I didn’t know Frankie was going in, but I’ve sent Wayne a couple of messages.
“She is amazing – down-to-earth, gorgeous, funny and brilliant.”
While this year’s celebs teeth chatter in Wales, Lisa has been taking her love for wild swimming to the next level in aid of supporting Talisker whisky and Parley’s One For The Sea programme.
They are working together, looking to support the protection and preservation of 100million square metres of sea forest by 2023.
During this month’s COP26 conference, 26 swimming professionals and ocean enthusiasts, including Lisa and extreme adventurer Ross Edgley, dipped into the chilly waters off Brighton beach to highlight the issue.
“We need to reconnect with nature, see the beauty of the oceans and how fragile they are, and re-educate everybody,” says Lisa.
“I love wild swimming so to get behind this One For The Sea campaign was invigorating.
“Afterwards, the benefits really kick in because you’re buzzing – it’s so good for relieving stress and boosting immunity.”
With warnings that biodiversity in our seas is in great danger – which is bad news for the planet as a whole – protecting sea kelp forests is critical.
Lisa adds: “They cover more than 25% of the ocean’s coastlines and do so much for the health of the world.
“They help to balance water acidity and absorb carbon dioxide, and they’re home to key species, which they shelter and nourish.
“Sea kelp absorbs more CO2 than trees, so it’s crucial we preserve and protect it.”
Lisa, who postponed her wedding to fiancé George Smart because of the Covid pandemic, turns 50 in January and is planning a once-in-a-lifetime holiday.
“George is taking me to Iceland,” the presenter revealed. “It’s a big one so I’ll celebrate the whole of January.”
