TV personality and former WAG Lizzie Cundy said she was supporting Coleen Rooney following her husband Wayne’s alleged cheating allegations.
The socialite openly chatted to the Daily Star about claims surrounding footballer Rooney at the Together For Short Lives’ Ball which took place in London on Tuesday.
Lizzie said: “Well yeah, I’ve known Coleen for a long time and she’s a lovely girl, she’s a lovely mum and it’s a shame both girls are having to go through this and I hope they get settled soon.
Explaining how often she would chat to Rooney’s wife, she said: “We’d speak and I’m there as a supportive friend but it’s a shame that it’s happening.”
This comes after Lizzie claimed that footballing manager Alex Ferguson encouraged his sporting legends to marry young in order to keep their love lives out of the newspapers.
The TV personality opened up in a telling interview with Lorraine Kelly as viewers prepare for the upcoming Rooney documentary set to launch on Amazon Prime next year, which has been wrapped in scandal.
In the trailer for the controversial programme, Coleen opened up about her rocky relationship with Wayne since photographs emerged of the football star at a hotel with another woman went viral online.
Now, her close friend and radio host Lizzie has claimed that many football stars were encouraged to get married at a young age to keep their names in order to focus on the game.
The 53-year-old star joined Lorraine on her ITV show via zoom after the trailer caused contention with the Rooney’s loyal legion of fans online over the weekend.
As the ex-wife of footballer Jason Cundy, the TV star revealed her thoughts on how many footballers grow up with fame and fortune following their sporting success.
She told viewers: “People don’t really realise in a football bubble, and I’m not really feeling sorry for footballers at all, but from a very young age they are given everything and everything is done for them.
“Even Alex Ferguson, he encouraged footballers to marry early, look at Stevie Gerrard, look at the Beckhams.
She added: “If you look at them all they married at a very early age ‘cause he wants to keep them off the front pages, he didn’t want them going to nightclubs and hanging around with girls and drinking.”
