Loose Women stars defend Katie Price following her drink-driving sentence

Loose Women stars have jumped to their former colleague Katie Price’s defence following her suspended sentence for driving under the influence and without a license.

During Thursday afternoon’s episode, panellists Nadia Sawalha, Judi Love, Carol McGiffin and Kaye Adams discussed Katie’s recent court case and her single driving collision which took place in September.

Speaking candidly, while struggling to find the right words to say, Nadia said: “We know Katie and she’s a good woman who’s made bad choices in places and has done bad things like all of us.

“It’s really difficult this one, I can understand why people are outraged with this sentence, absolutely can understand that. When you think of people that have lost people through drink driving, it must almost feel personal to them.”

Nadia went on to explain that she believed prison isn’t the best way to help deal with those who are suffering from “addiction problems,” and thinks “100 meetings” and “tough community service” is a better solution.

Chiming in on the conversation, Judi expressed: “Addiction is such a hard thing to deal with.”

“When it comes to having an addiction, there’s certain places you can go, such as prison, but that can even make it worse, for some.

“It’s all on the individual like I said a holistic assessment is the most important thing to do, to know what the main risks are and eliminate them.”

On Wednesday, reality star Katie was given a sentence of 16 weeks suspended for 12 months, 100 hours of unpaid work, 20 sessions of rehabilitation work with probation, and a two-year driving ban.

On top of this, she was also ordered to pay £213 in costs. However, Crawley Magistrates court was informed that she already owes the courts £7,358.

District Judge Amanda Kelly said she was extremely lucky that she wasn’t facing Christmas behind bars.

She said: “When you chose to get behind the wheel of your car while intoxicated with drink and drugs, you showed no concern at all for the lives of others.

“You could easily have killed someone, a child, a parent, a friend, and devastated their lives forever.”
