Love Island star Brett Staniland was casted for the show after producers slid into his DMs, his twin brother Scott has revealed – and it wasn’t the first time he was approached.
The 27-year-old joined the villa this week as a late arrival and has coupled up with Priya Gopaldas, with things seeming to be going well for the studious pair.
His brother Scott, who is his identical twin, spilled a few show secrets on Friday as he spoke of the casting process behind the scenes.
Speaking to Andy Twigge on BBC Radio Derby on Friday, Scott – who had been looking after Brett’s social media accounts – confessed this wasn’t the first time producers had tried to get his brother on television.

“Brett works in fashion so he’s got a bit of an online presence already,” he explained of his model brother.
He said: “He had a few messages from casting agents and directors and producers, and after a couple of messages back and forth he got on a call with a producer and it went from there.
“He’s had it a little bit in the past for other shows and for Love Island, and I think this year with how his studies were going, he was like, ‘You know what, I’m just gonna do it.'”

Brett is a PhD student, with his studies focusing on exercise and health.
Scott had been looking after Brett’s social media accounts however found the trolling to be too much, as, being identical to his brother, he said he took comments about his appearance too personally.
However it sounds like Brett is well prepared to deal with any sort of negativity – and ITV made sure he was in a strong place mentally before going on the show.

Scott told Andy: “That mental fortitude is so key now. As much as the show gets a lot of stick, I’ve noticed a change.
“They really do their due diligence now and Brett had a lot of phone calls with psychiatrists, psychologists.
“They called some of our family to check in and have a chat about what his life’s been like – any stresses, stuff like that, so that’s a nice part of it that they do go above and beyond for.”
He went on: “But he’s got a good solid group of friends he can definitely lean on for support, and I’m here to take some of that burden too.”
Sadly, Scott was forced to give the control of Brett’s social media accounts to someone else after a barrage of abuse.
“It’s hard not to look at times,” he said. “I thought, I’m his identical twin so anything I see about appearance or what he’s like I take it so personally.”
