Love Island Brett's modelling agency slams 'jealous' critics as star is 'strong-minded'

Brett Staniland entered the Love Island villa to mixed reviews on Tuesday evening – but his critics are no more than “jealous”, according to the modelling agency Brett is signed with.

The model and PHD student, who hails from Derbyshire, caught the eyes of Chloe Burrows and Priya Gopaldas when he was first spotted relaxing on a sun lounger.

Twin Brett told the girls: “You can come and say hello if you like.”

But fans weren’t immediately impressed by the new bombshell, with some implying he won’t be able to turn any heads in the villa.

Others compared the jet-setter to former Islander Chuggs Wallis, as they both hail from high-end backgrounds.

One Twitter user mocked: “Brett is supposed to be a bombshell? He looks like he just got lost on the way to Oxford!” while a wealth of others were busy comparing the new Islander to various cartoon characters.

But now Brett’s modelling agency have offered their own view on the criticism, slamming “jealous” social media users who are willing to mock someone without knowing them in real life.

Alex Haddad, of BMA Models, told Daily Star: “You’re always gonna get criticism. In a way, every single human being is Marmite to someone else – they either like or dislike him for whatever reason.”

“I just think it’s unnecessary, especially if they don’t know the person personally. What gives you the right to judge someone if you don’t know him?

“I think that’s disrespectful to him, and it all comes down to one thing – jealousy. That’s all it is, it’s jealousy.”

But Alex added that Brett has an incredibly thick skin, and won’t let the comments affect him.

“I find it very unfair to criticise someone if you don’t personally know them, but that’s the world of social media and you can’t do anything about it,” he said.

“You’re always going to get someone who says ‘he’s not hot, he’s not well spoken’, or ‘his accent’s rubbish’ or ‘he doesn’t know what he’s doing, he shouldn’t be in there’ or whatever, but that’s just online banter and chatter.

“I don’t think it will affect him. He’s a very strong-minded guy, he’s an adult, not a child. He’s in his late 20s, so I don’t think it will affect him.”

Speaking about Brett’s talents as a model, Alex added: “He’s brilliant. He’s very on the ball and very professional, always on time.

“Clients are always ssaying how amazing and bubbly he is. We never have any complaints – he’s spot on, and very professional about what he does.

“This is not his first rodeo.”

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVHub.
