Love Island Danny's friends and family insist he's a 'top lad' and isn't racist

Love Island’s newest boy, Danny Bibby, is at the heart of a racism row after eagle-eyed viewers looked through his social media, but his family and friends insist he’s a ‘top lad’.

Fans found a comment from December 2019, where the 25-year-old plumber replied to a friend’s remark on one of his pictures.

Danny replied with a racist slur, saying “My n****”.

One of Danny’s friends, his tattoo artist Sam Janbi, says Danny is a good guy.

“I’ve seen a couple of the comments towards him already, and it’s horrible.”

Talking about Danny’s post he said: “It’s a comment, isn’t it, and now he’s being judged by thousands of people.”

On people’s mean comments when they saw Danny’s looks, he said: “The comments yesterday were so fickle, you know. Do we live in such a fickle society?”

“People were saying he looks like he’s come out of prison because of his tattoos. Are we still in that day and age now?”

He continues: “Online is a minefield, isn’t it. You’ve got the keyboard warriors, as soon as they came out with a picture of him.”

“I think it’s a good looking lad you know. He’s got a cracking body and he’s full of decent artwork, but they look past that and judge him as a person because of how he looks.”

“He’s a top lad. I can’t say a bad word about him to be honest with you,” insists the artist.

Danny’s dad, Richard Bibby, also released a statement in the wake of the scandal.

“Danny does not have a racist bone in his body and there were no racist intentions to this post.

He added: “Although it was not done maliciously, it was a mistake. I absolutely apologise on his behalf for the offence this wording may have caused. That would never have been his intention.”

Fans will watch Danny go on dates with two of the female Islanders during Friday’s show.

He picked Kaz Kamwi as his first girl to get to know and viewers will find out Danny’s second female companion tonight.
