On Sunday night (August 22), the Love Island contestants were joined by their family members for the penultimate episode, and fans were left confused when they were all made to social distance.
Hugs were banned and fans were baffled.
The meet the family segment of Love Island is a regular feature each season, with the Love Island contestants being reunited with their families whom they haven’t seen in weeks or months.
Usually when the families and friends enter the villa, they are greeted by an abundance of hugs, kisses and long embraces – but this year was a little different and fans were left rather confused and frustrated.
Due to coronavirus restrictions, social distancing was put in place to protect both the Islanders and their families, but fans still couldn’t understand why, when all restrictions in the UK had come to an end.
Before the 2021 series began, it was thought that the families would all meet via Zoom chats, so much to everybody’s surprise, they were allowed to head into the famous villa of love.
It has been reported that only double-jabbed family members and friends had the opportunity to visit their loved ones in the sunny Spanish location.
Fans were frustrated when they tuned in on Sunday night, with many wanted them to hug and embrace each other.
As always, fans flocked to social media to vent their thoughts and frustrations.
One fan devastated fan said: “It’s actually broke my heart watching them all having to social distance from their families after so long apart you’d deffo want a lil cwtch but I get they’ve had to do it.:
Another chimed in: “Imagine having to quarantine for 2 weeks, to social distance from your family who you haven’t seen in over a month, for them to come back to the UK and quarantine again…. might as well have hooked them up on a zoom meeting.”
A third person penned: “Did you really need to social distance them from there own family??? You could have just had both parties vaccinated at then they would be able to hug and kiss.”
While a fourth said: “As much as I have abided by the Covid restrictions the past 15 months, you could not tell me to social distance from my family when I’ve been living with strangers for 7 weeks and suffered emotional turmoil. I’m hugging my mum.”
And a fifth was rather confused when they wrote: “So the islanders couldn’t hug their loved ones but the panel on aftersun didn’t have to social distance?”
Love Island concludes Monday night at 9pm on ITV2
