Dates on Love Island might look like the epitome of romance – but there’s a very good reason behind that.
Former contestant Georgia Steel revealed to Daily Star Online that islanders are actually separated before each date in order to capture the most of the ‘love story’ on screen.
It comes after the couples headed out on their final dates, with Kaz and Tyler heading to a cobbled courtyard to be serenaded by a string quartet, and Faye and Teddy splashing in a pool full to the brim with rose petals.
Jake and Liberty, meanwhile, headed out on a luxury boat trip.
But each of the contestants had to take separate cars to arrive at their destination, Georgia splurged.
She admitted: “The dates are one of the most exciting things, because you get to leave the villa, which you don’t get to do that often!
“It’s always really exciting. But normally, on the way to a date, you’re split up. You go in separate cars.”
Georgia continued: “I understand it from Love Island’s point of view – they want to capture the moment of you experiencing time together, one-on-one. And obviously if you’re in a car together going down to the date, you’re going to be discussing everything you would usually discuss on a date.
“They want to catch that for the public so people can follow your love story.”
She added: “You’re parted behind the scenes so you can’t speak to each other until you’re on the date.”
That isn’t the only trick producers have up their sleeve to ensure they capture the best narrative for the cameras.
Georgia also spilled that multiple takes are often used to capture the best of the drama for a reality-loving audience, admitting: “Of course there are things redone for the cameras, because if they haven’t caught an important moment that they want the public to follow, they obviously want to catch that.
“So I understand why they might want you to repeat something you’ve said that they missed, because it could be an important piece to the puzzle they’re trying to achieve.
“So yeah, you do have to do retakes sometimes, but it’s only for the goodness of creating a good show.”
2017 contestant and model Tyla Carr admitted in 2019 that islanders have to inform producers if they’re planning to chat about something important so it can be caught on camera.
She told Daily Star: “They tell you what they want you to talk about, and who with. You have to tell the producers on site if you are planning to have an important chat or do something, so they make sure the microphones pick it up and the cameras get it.
“If you forget, they would call you in and ask you to film it again.”
It comes after Anna Vakili admitted during a Facebook Live with Daily Star Online reporter Carly Hacon that there are only two bathrooms in the villa – and cameras set up in front of the loo for “safety” purposes.
Georgia agreed: “Yeah, there are only two bathrooms. It’s awful.
“The downstairs downstairs toilet is where you do your bad business and the upstairs toilet is only allowed for wees.
“It can be really intense, especially when there are a lot of people in the villa – when people are brought back from Casa Amor there can be up to 15 in the villa, and that’s a lot of people sharing two toilets!”
Georgia has recently been elected the brand new VP of Loyalty for McDonalds – and dished the dirt on what she usually orders from the fast food joint.
The scheme makes it easier for customers to save stamps via an app to use on McCafe hot drinks.
“It was a great opportunity for me, and I felt like the campaign and me just slotted together perfectly because obviously I’m known for loyalty, that was my catchphrase, and it’s their VP of Loyalty scheme – it just went hand-in-hand,” she admitted.
“My McDonalds order would be chicken selects – I am basic, I’m not gonna lie! – with the sour chive dip. Fries, and a Diet Coke,” she splurged.
“And my favourite hot drink would either be a hot chocolate or a coffee in a morning!”
Georgia Steele has been appointed McDonald’s VP of Loyalty and all customers have to do is find a ‘connection’ to download the app and register to start collecting McCafé rewards right away.
