Love Island’s villa is currently divided into two halves, made up of romantic couples and friendship couples – and Sharon Gaffka and Hugo Hammond fall in the latter category.
The Islanders initially paired up and felt no spark between them, before recoupling with different contestants in the hopes of finding love.
However, Sharon has expressed a romantic interest in Hugo since they recoupled as friends – and an unearthed selfie shows the pair looking very close to one another.
Taken on their Love Island phone, Sharon and Hugo can be seen lying on the day bed, leaning into one another to pose for the photo.
After the snapshot was uploaded, fans made it clear they were rooting for the pair to fall in love, with one writing: “Hugo and Sharon pic is cute tho.”
A second added: “Why do Sharon and Hugo actually look good together tho.”
Another shared: “I’m sorry but Hugo and Sharon look good together.”
Sharon started to develop feelings for the dashing PE teacher earlier this week, confiding in Kaz Kamwi about the changing state of their relationship.
On Sharon’s behalf, Kaz did some investigation work, trying to figure out whether Hugo felt the same about the beautiful civil servant.
Unfortunately, it seems Hugo has firmly put their relationship in the friend zone, comparing Sharon to a “little sister” in a slightly awkward chat on Thursday.
He said: “If I’m completely honest with you I can’t see there being anything romantic between you and me because I see you as a little sister in here now, and I think you’re amazing and I want you to find someone that’s 100 per cent you, and you definitely deserve that.
“I don’t see you in that way and I don’t think I ever could. As much as friendship couples are great and we have fun, it serves a purpose for the time being, but I don’t want it to be my whole experience. I want to share this with someone.
“I don’t want this to be your whole experience at all.”
New Islanders Andrea-Jane Bunker and Danny Bibby have expressed an interest in both Sharon and Hugo – but with a recoupling looming, it could be make or break for the friendship couple.
Love Island continues on Sunday at 9pm on ITV.
