Love Island's Liberty says winning money didn't matter as she thanks fans for support

Love Island’s Liberty Poole left viewers shellshocked when she and Jake Cornish announced that they were leaving the villa on Friday, just days before tonight’s tense final.

The 22-year-old bombshell had been coupled up with Jake, 24, since the start of the series, just after Liberty made the decision to call it a day on their romance.

However, Jake has since revealed to Daily Star that he “can’t just switch feelings off”, hinting that a reconciliation may be on the cards for him and Liberty.

Ahead of tonight’s final, Liberty has broken her silence, insisting that she was never bothered about the financial gain that comes with winning the hit ITV2 show.

She said: “Hi guys, I’ve got my phone back now – I’m just in a villa.”

The former Nando’s waitress went on to tell her Instagram followers: “I can’t even tell you guys how overwhelmed I am by the amount of support you guys have shown.

“The amount of messages I’ve had saying ‘you’ve inspired me’, ‘you’re my role model’ [sic].”

She continued: “It honestly means more to me than winning any sort of money or even getting to the final, the fact that I’ve inspired so many people – honestly, that’s what I wanted to do.

“So, just a quick video to say ‘big love’ and honestly, thank you guys so much!”

Last night, it emerged that Liberty’s mum, Jo, 49, was “heartbroken” after seeing how Jake had treated her daughter.

Speaking to The Mirror from Mallorca, Jo said: “It was an emotional journey, and I’m grateful she’s with me.

“I think Jake has had a rough time and if Libby is saying he is a nice person, then I have to stick with that.

“But it was heartbreaking because she was looking for love and he was as well.”

Jo explained that she wanted ‘Jiberty’ to be “true love” adding that she didn’t feel Jake offered the right amount of love to her daughter, before explaining Liberty made the right decision to walk away.

Speaking for the first time since leaving the famous villa, Liberty broke her silence on viewers claims that Jake had been playing a game in order to win the desired £50,000.

“I think only Jake can answer that question, it’s hard to comment on what people are seeing, and you guys are seeing it from an outside perspective, whereas I was in the relationship,” she said.

Liberty continued to The Sun: “Obviously when you love someone you don’t think of them playing a game. But only Jake can answer that.”

Love Island’s finale airs tonight from 9pm on ITV2.
