Love Island’s Priya Gopaldas turned heads in the Love Island villa with her intelligence and blossoming medical career, and since leaving the island she has donated her earning from the show to an NHS charity.
The kind-hearted 23-year-old posted a screenshot of her donation of £750 to her Instagram story.
She captioned the pic: “Love Island pay cheque put to use,” next to the picture showing her bank payment.
It revealed that she donated her earnings from the time in the villa to the charity, NHS Charities Together.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Star, she explained: “Being in the villa was just such a positive experience.
“I didn’t expect to reap any reward from being on the show, I just had a great time, I just want to help the NHS.
“As a little gesture, I thought I’d support the NHS and donate to that charity,” she explained.
She said she didn’t do it for praise though: “I’ve had so much positive feedback, but I didn’t expect it. The reason why I shared it was just so people will be inspired to do the same sort of thing.
“That was always in my mind when I went on the show, wanting to work for charities,” she added.
Priya coupled up with Brett Staniland in the villa, but their love story wasn’t meant to be, and she was voted out.
Despite this, Priya said she loved her time and was thrilled when her family threw a welcome home party for her this week: “It was total surprise with them! I’m really grateful for all the support that they’ve given me.”
As for what’s next, she doesn’t intend to leave the NHS: “I’m going back to med school in the next two weeks, so I’m really looking forward to that.
“I’m going to carry on supporting the NHS, because they’ve given me so much benefit. And so I want to just give back to them.”
After the pandemic, Priya is keen to help where she can: “I’ve started to work with the NHS on the vaccine campaign for 16 and 17 year olds. That’s something I feel really passionate about.”
As well as medicine, she does hope that her time in the villa might bring other work: “I loved being on TV so I would like to do more of that, and working with a fitness brand would be a dream as it’s my passion!”
That will be no surprise to fans after she talked about her love of running during her dates with Brett.
Her main hope though is that other Islanders and viewers will be inspired to make charity donations, too.
Previous Islander Anna Vakili told the Daily Star that she was paid £100 per week, but according to The Sun current islanders are paid £250.
