Lucy Mecklenburgh’s has shared a worrying snap of her baby boy hooked up to an IV drip in hospital online as she praised the NHS for saving his life.
The 30-year-old, who shares her son Roman with her partner Ryan Thomas, explained it was “every parent’s worst nightmare” when she found their 18-months-old son was “blue in his cot.”
In a lengthy Instagram post the former The Only Way Is Essex star updated her loyal legion of fans on the wellbeing of her son one week after the incident took place.
She revealed how the little tot was transferred to St Mary’s London hospital where he was taken to the intensive care unit and put on a ventilator.
Lucy reassured her 1.7 million followers that their little man is now “back to his cheeky self” alongside a snap of Roman on the hospital bed with his grey bunny toy snuggled up to keep him comfortable.
The doting mum began: “As some of you may have noticed we haven’t been on social media lately.
“Just over a week ago I found Roman blue in his cot – probably every parent’s worst nightmare.
“Without going into too much detail it ended up with Roman being transferred to St Mary’s London intensive care being put on a ventilator.
“Thankfully we are now all home and Roman is back to his cheeky self.”
The TV star then went on to admit she is “eternally grateful” to all the staff involved in his care which helped save his life.
She continued: “I am eternally grateful to the ambulance service for arriving so quickly, to Basildon hospital, the CATS team (children action transport services) St Mary’s London PICU & Cosmic charity (Caring for babies & children in intensive care).
“I would love to do something in return and to hopefully help other sick children & their families.
“I’d like to help with the new Children’s garden area at Basildon hospital as it’s unusable at the moment and I know it would bring so much joy to children on the wards.
“I’d also like to support Cosmic Charity with a donation from us, and a promise I will support this charity as much as I can in the future.”
The Essex star has since set up a Just Giving page to support the charity and the hospital for those who will use their services again in the future.
The charity Cosmic was founded in 1994 initially to help raise money for the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington.
Now the charity helps children at St Mary’s and Queen Charlotte’s Hospitals in London by supporting the patients and their family in intensive care each year.
Lucy concluded her lengthy post with: “Although mentally we as a family may never fully recover, we feel extremely blessed to have our special boy home in our arms and it has truly opened our eyes to all the hardworking superheroes working in our hospitals who dedicate their lives to helping others and how extremely lucky we are to have these incredible medical services free for us all in the UK.
“Thank you NHS and all the charities that support the NHS.”
