Married At First Sight UK 'makes Love Island look like Downton Abbey' says contestant

The sixth series of Married At First Sight UK has just begun and is gearing up to be the most explosive yet.

The popular dating, or shall we say marriage show, sees complete strangers meet at the altar, get married, go on their honeymoon and move in together before deciding whether to divorce.

For this series, the show has had a massive makeover, with insiders saying that the Channel 4 bosses have taken notes from the Aussie version, which was a surprise lockdown hit with nearly two million viewers.

The Aussie show that was a huge hit last year saw the newlyweds interact with the other couples, which let to explosive happenings that kept us all glued to our screens.

Amy Christopher is a 34-year-old sports presenter from Falmouth, Cornwall

Amy Christophers, a contestant on this year’s series, has said that the couples interacting with each other leads to “explosive dinner parties and drunken commitment ceremonies with lots of tears and swapping spouses”.

Producers are hoping that with the couples interacting, the show could become just as exciting and action-packed as the Australian version, which saw one groom cheat on his wife with another bride.

Amy, a 34-year-old sports presenter from Falmouth in Cornwall, added: “MAFS makes Love Island look like Downton Abbey.”

Monday (August 30) saw the first episode of Married At First Sight UK air and trust us when we say that it has already delivered plenty of drama.

In the first episode 16 singletons met at their hen and stag dos and two couples tied the knot – yep, all in the very first episode.

The grooms discussed their dream partner, while the brides-to-be confessed they couldn’t wait to get intimate with their new husbands.

Morag, a 31-year-old veterinary nurse, revealed: “I need to learn to keep my legs shut” while Amy said her deal breaker was a “f****** big ****.”

In an exclusive interview with The Sun Amy revealed: “Expect explosive dinner parties, drunken commitment ceremonies with lots of tears and swapping spouses.

“Sometimes I thought I was on that other programme Wife Swap.”

Mel Schilling from the Aussie version of the show, Celebs Go Dating’s Paul C Brunson and relationship expert Charlene Douglas, from E4’s The Sex Clinic make up the group of matchmakers on this year’s series.

Revealing to The Sun, Mel Schilling said: “I came to the UK expecting the contributors to be a bit more reserved, which is just a stereotype, as I was very wrong and pleasantly surprised.”

Married at First Sight UK continues tonight on E4 at 9pm.
