Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have welcomed the fourth addition to their family, and celebrities can’t get over the heartwarming name they have chosen for the newborn.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex saw the arrival of their daughter Lili on Friday in California, with both mother and child “healthy and well” after the delivery.
Weighing at 7lb 11oz, Lili is their second child, following the birth of their son Archie in 2019.
“On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili. She is more than we could have ever imagined,” Harry and Meghan have said in a statement.
Baby Lili’s full name is Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor – Meghan and Harry picked the name as an ode to Queen Elizabeth.
Her majesty’s nickname is said to be Lilibet and was a pet name of sorts, created by her late husband Prince Philip, who died tragically earlier this year.
Reacting to the heartwarming news, celebs across the globe sent the couple their congratulations, thrilled Meghan and Lili were healthy and happy.
ITV Royal expert Chris Ship led the commentary, praising the emotional backstory behind the name.
He said: “BABY NEWS: Harry and Meghan’s baby girl has arrived. She’s called Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor
“The couple’s Archewell website says Lili was born Lili on Friday, June 4th at 11:40am ‘in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara’.
“Harry and Meghan named their daughter after the Queen and Princess Diana. ‘Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.’”
Meghan’s photographer friend Misan Harriman shared a beautiful photo of the couple taken during the pregnancy, and wrote: “Lilibet has arrived! Congratulations to my brave friend and her lovely family!”
Prime Minister Boris Johnson congratulated the couple, penning a tribute on Twitter which read: “Many congratulations to The Duke & Duchess of Sussex on the birth of their daughter.”
Even Piers Morgan addressed the baby news, making a barbed dig at the Sussexes over Twitter and referencing Meghan and Harry’s decision to leave their Royal duties.
He said: “To those asking for my reaction to the new royal baby, I am respecting her parents’ constant pleas for privacy and declining to comment.”
The couple, who married at Windsor Castle in 2018, first announced they were expecting their second child in February of this year.
“We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother,” their spokeswoman said at the time. ”The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.”
A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace said the Royal Family were “delighted” for the happy couple, and “wish them well” with the pregnancy.

Meghan and Harry decided to step down from their Royal duties in early 2020, initially moving to Canada before relocating to Los Angeles.
In a brave admission, Meghan said she suffered a miscarriage in July of that year, opening up about the ordeal in a personal essay for The New York Times.
“I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second,” she wrote, in words that resonated with women across the globe.
