Megan Markle has opened up about her children’s novel The Bench and how it was inspired through watching Prince Harry and their son Archie together.
Speaking in her interview with NPR, the Duchess of Sussex discussed the purchase of a bench she had bought her husband for Father’s Day.
The former Suits actress explained: “As most of us do, you go, what am I going to get them as a gift? And I thought I just wanted something sentimental and a place for him to have as a bit of a home base with our son.”
“This is your bench, Where life will begin/For you and our son/Our baby, our kin.” Meghan inscribed on a plaque.

Two years later, she is now releasing the book and discussed why she felt she had to write it.
Meghan said: “I often find, and especially in this past year, I think so many of us realised how much happens in the quiet.
“In the story I am observing this love between my husband and our son and imagining what it would be as they have more shared moments as our son gets older.

“From scraping a knee to having a heart broken, whatever it is they always have this moment to reset at this bench and have this moment to bond.”
She added: “It was definitely moments like that, watching them from out of the window and watching just, you know, rock him to sleep or carry him or, you know … those lived experiences, from my observation, are the things that I infused in this poem.”
Meghan spoke about how she had infused a lot of her own personal memories and things in the book such as Princess Diana’s favourite flower, forget-me-nots.
She also added her own rescue chickens into the book, saying: “I needed my girls in there.”
Speaking about the themes of the book and how far she hopes it can reach other people, she said: “It’s a love story.
