Meghan Markle deliberately only used The Duchess of Cambridge’s name once during her now infamous chat with Oprah Winfrey to distance herself from the negative light, it has been claimed.
A new TV show by Discovery+ has dissected the explosive royal exposé by the Duchess of Sussex in which she accused Kate Middleton of reducing her to tears ahead of her wedding to Prince Harry.
Meghan and Harry: Recollections May Vary sees body language expert Dr Cliff Lansley, Professor of Linguistics Dawn Archer and Forensic Psychologist Kerry Daynes, all give their professional take on the chat.
After reviewing the clip when Meghan called out Prince William’s wife for making her cry, Professor Archer said: “Clearly Meghan cared about it as she feels unfairly treated and victimised here.
“We get 19 uses of ‘she’ or ‘her’ instead using Kate’s name.
“We can conformably state this is an example of distancing.”
Going into detail she continued: “We are talking about something that is difficult so we don’t want to use first names.
“One of the reasons that she might be saying she and her is that she is about to say something that will put Kate in a negative light.”
A royal source recently claimed to Mail Online that Meghan’s comments were likely to have hurt Kate deeply.
The insider said: “To name Kate so publicly during the Oprah interview as the person who made her cry was beyond the pale. Meghan would have been acutely aware that Kate is powerless to fight back.
“Despite her growing confidence in public, Kate is a deeply sensitive woman who likes to stay behind-the-scenes as much as possible to support her family and the country.”
The insider added: “William thinks the way she has been treated is unfair.”
Initial reports in November 2018 claimed that Meghan left Kate in tears during preparation for the wedding.
The clash is said to have been over Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress – something Meghan didn’t dispute to Oprah.
The actress saw red after Kate said the bridesmaids should wear tights as per royal protocol.
Meghan claimed to Oprah: “The reverse happened.
“A few days before the wedding she was upset about something, pertaining to … the flower girl dresses, and it made me cry. And it really hurt my feelings.
“There wasn’t a confrontation and I don’t think it’s fair to her to get into the details of that because she apologised, and I have forgiven her.
“What was hard to get over was being blamed for something that not only I didn’t do, but that happened to me.
“I’m not sharing that piece about Kate in any way to be disparaging to her.”
