Michelle Heaton was full of emotion as she looked back at how far she’s come over the past year, hailing Katie Price for saving her life.
The former Liberty X star explained that had become addicted to cocaine and alcohol from 2018 but thanks to Katie, she sought professional help.
Michelle’s downward spiral began after she’d been informed that she was a carrier of the mutated BRCA2 gene, in 2012.
As she bared such a high risk of breast cancer and ovarian cancer, Michelle put herself forward for a double mastectomy that same year, followed by a hysterectomy in 2014.
After her showbiz friends had noticed her slipping away they made the executive decision to take matters into their own hands.
Katie led the way, telling Michelle that she needed to check herself into the Priory.
The four week stint to beat overcome her addiction to drug and alcohol addiction was also paid for by her celebrity pals.
Speaking to The Sun, Michelle couldn’t fight back her tears as she explained what happened next: “I texted Katie while I was in The Priory, ‘You saved my life’. Because The Priory did save my life.
“What I was doing was a suicide mission. I never actually thought, ‘I want to kill myself’, but ultimately I was killing myself.
“I was crying out for help when I couldn’t actually ask for help. But when you’re an addict, it feels like there’s no way out.”
Michelle, who rose to fame in 2001 after featuring on the popular series Popstars, was sinking around two wine bottles along with vodka each night.
At first, the hitmaker refused to get any help when her best friend approached her.
She explained: “There was a moment when I said, ‘I’m not going’. My best friend kicked off at me and said, ‘Michelle — you’re dying’.
“It was a joint effort from all my very dear friends who wanted me to live.”
The singer turned TV star explained that she had been trying to self-destruct after she’d undergone her hysterectomy.
As she’s been “plunged into early menopause” she felt she was no longer “recognised as a woman on paper”.
Michelle also revealed she hadn’t had any therapy following both procedures and was not “allowed to cry”.
It was at this point that the star turned to alcohol and drugs.
Thankfully Michelle had great friends who were on hand to help her find the support she needed.
