BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty had an awkward moment with Saturday Kitchen presenter Matt Tebbutt as she and Charlie Stayt did a live link to his own studio during Saturday’s show.
She and Charlie did a video link to Matt to find out what he had coming up on his show after their own episode ended, but it didn’t take long for things to turn tense.
Charlie said: “Matt Tebbutt takes over at 10, look, he’s all ready to go,” as Matt was shown on the screen at his table with a coffee cup.
The breakfast presenter then asked: “Is there anything in that cup, is it real?”
Matt then turned the cup round and replied: “I just finished it, it was a nice espresso, I need the energy to deal with you two, how are you two?”
Naga quickly jumped in as she swiped: “Why don’t you concentrate on your own programme, I’m sure you’ve got guests who want your attention?”
Matt looked unimpressed as he said: “All right, all right. Moving on anyway” as he then turned to his showbiz guest of the day, Ronan Keating, to have a chat with him.
The TV chef was then left very red-faced as he told Ronan he had a “double dose” of him after speaking to him on The One Show and then “listening to his album in bed”.
Matt and Ronan burst into laughter as he tried to correct himself before joking he was “in his hotel bed listening to album in his kimono”, before quickly changing the subject.
As the conversation returned to the studio, Naga couldn’t resist another dig as she said that Ronan was “looking uncomfortable”.
Meanwhile, Naga gave a sweet goodbye to one of her BBC co-stars, Katherine Downes, as the star opened up on her final time presenting for BBC Sport on the show after 14 years of presenting.
Katherine posted on social media: “My last shift with the sports news on @BBCBreakfast and, true to form, I’ve forgotten my shoes.
“Borrowed some from @TVNaga01 ‘s cupboard…she has much daintier feet than me.
“An (un)fitting finale coming up over the next 3 hours.”
Naga quickly replied to her friend: “You wear them fabulously.”
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC.
