Naga Munchetty shut down on BBC Breakfast as she begs journalist to sing live on stage

Naga Munchetty was swiftly shut down on Friday’s instalment of BBC Breakfast, as she begged a reporter to perform a song-and-dance routine live on-air.

Reporter Ben Thompson was on stage at the Palace Theatre in Manchester to discuss the return of pantomime season, with Naga and Charlie Stayt hosting from the studio.

But as Ben attempted to introduce the cast of White Christmas for a special performance, things turned slightly awkward.

He explained to Naga and Charlie: “We’re going to have a pretty special performance for you, right here on the stage at the Palace Theatre.”

But Naga couldn’t resist asking: “Are you going to be a part of it?”

Ben was swift in his shut-down, snapping: “No, I can tell you that for nothing.”

Not one to be deterred, Naga pressed on: “Well, think about it. You’ve got some time to think about it.”

The camera soon cut back to the studio, but it wasn’t long before Ben’s performance segment was ready, as Charlie introduced the portion of the programme.

He said: “A performance which will be a delight to many people this morning we are going to the Palace Theatre in Manchester, Ben is there for us looking ahead to the panto season. There we are on stage, just like West Side Story, Ben!”

Naga reminded him: “And we have your own performance as well, Ben!”

Ben wagged his finger at her as he insisted: “Nuh-uh, that was not the deal!”

He went on: “But I do have the best job this morning, because look – we’re here, we’re on the stage at the Palace Theatre!”

However, it wasn’t the only festive slip-up on Friday’s show, as Naga also made a blunder while chatting to Shakin’ Stevens about his Christmas Number 1.

She wondered: “Can I just ask you something? It feels really odd to call you Shakin’, is that how I’m supposed to refer to you?”

And the musician replied: “No, it’s not. In conversation it’s Shaky.”

Blushing Naga said: “Oh, sorry. I apologise.”

Fans couldn’t get over the ‘cringey’ segment, as one posted on Twitter: “A bloke who calls himself Shakin’ Stevens tells Naga his name is Shaky. Make your mind up fella!”

“Blimey, that was cringey!” someone else followed up.

While another fan wrote: “Naga: ‘What shall we call you, Shakin’?’ Just call me Shaky. Charlie: ‘OK Shakin'”.

BBC Breakfast airs from 6am every day on BBC One.
