Netflix deal 'leaving Prince Harry embarrassed' as he has 'no control', expert claims

A royal commentator has claimed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been left “embarrassed” by the “lack of control” the couple have over a deal they signed with Netflix after leaving the Royal Family.

Meghan and Harry have embarked on a number of new ventures since abdicating their royal responsibilities and moving across to the US last year.

One of the new opportunities the Sussexes have taken has been to sign a significant contract with streaming giants Netflix, with who they plan to produce wide-ranging content.

But, with the recent release of Diana: The Musical on the platform, some critics have suggested that the couple might be forced to sit back as their employers release programmes they don’t necessarily approve of.

Speaking on the Mail’s Palace Confidential podcast, Diary Editor Richard Eden claimed: “The thing is, he’s got no control, he’s just signed a deal with a huge streaming giant, and they can do what they like.

“And there’ll be more examples of this, I’m sure, where there will be programmes that he wouldn’t approve of, and they don’t need to get his approval I don’t think before showing them, and it puts him in an awkward position.

“And I think he is a bit embarrassed by that. We saw that in that Oprah interview where he just said ‘we did these deals because we were desperate for money’.”

But, even if they might be dissatisfied, Richard suggested that there is little room for the Sussexes to back out of their contract now.

“I think there’s fat chance of Harry and Meghan giving up their very lucrative Netflix deal,” he added.

“It was when Prince Harry was interviewed by James Corden, and in that programme he defended The Crown, which is also made by Netflix.

“And it was kind of excruciating because you felt, ‘why are you doing that?’ But you felt like he was justifying, maybe to himself, that it’s not so bad.”

The Mail on Sunday’s Assistant Editor Kate Mansey agreed, adding: “If you take the money then you’re in a bit of a bind.”

The royal commentator claimed that popular show The Crown is “something that’s really angered people at the palace”.

This is because, she explained: “You’re taking something that’s really happened but you’re twisting it.”

This comes as one royal expert branded Prince Harry “disgraceful” if he accepts the recently released musical about his late mother.
