Netflix is in a battle with a number of sordid websites after videos from their hottest new series Bridgerton began to surface featuring the Shonda Rhimes show’s leads Phoebe Dynevor (Daphne Bridgerton) and Regé-Jean Page (Duke Simon Hastings).
The fan-favourite new couple appeared in a myriad of sexy positions throughout the latter half of the eight-episode season, and since turning up on external websites the scenes have had hundreds of thousands of views.
While some clips have been removed from the adult websites, Netflix has only managed to get others suspended, and the fight continues.
Learning the news of what happened, Phoebe is said to be devastated.
She has previously defended the choice to have so many graphic sex scenes in the sumptuous historical romance, and firmly believes they help tell the story of her character Daphne’s sexual awakening.
But an insider told The Sun: “Bridgerton’s sex scenes appearing alongside some of the most obscene material the web has to offer has sparked horror and anger.
“Raunchy set-pieces have contributed to the buzz but it is a prestige drama based on best-selling novels.
“To peddle scenes as pure smut is beyond the pale.”
“It’s been particularly distressing for Phoebe and Regé-Jean,” the source continued. “Two young actors who signed on for the role of a lifetime and did not consent to being exploited in this way.
The source claimed that Netflix staffers have been working relentlessly to try and track down the pirates and get rid of their seedy uploads.
“Anyone thinking about trying this will have the full force of the globe’s biggest streaming service against them.”
Speaking ahead of the show’s release on Christmas Day, Phoebe considered: “It never felt like the sex scenes were just there for the sake of the sex scenes.
“They really told a story. They told Daphne’s sexual evolution and it was really important to get them right.”
Bridgerton season 1 is available to stream on Netflix now.
