Nina Warhurst thanks BBC Breakfast star for backing her in Dan Walker age row

BBC Breakfast guest journalist Nina Warhurst was left reeling during a tense row about her age with host Dan Walker on Wednesday.

Nina was busy discussing the introduction of Covid-19 passports to venues like clubs and bars after fears over the new Omicron variant hit the country – and during her segment, demonstrated how to access the passes online using a tablet.

The journalist could be seen pretending to type on an iPad as the email address ‘nina@breakfast.co.uk’ appeared on-screen.

“You put your password in, just like that… Stop it!” she cheekily scolded Sally and Dan, who were trying to have a good gander at what was being entered.

She then explained: “You have two options, and seeing as though I’m going clubbing tonight, I will go for the domestic pass.”

Afterwards, Nina said: “I think it’s important to point out – lots of us do have smartphones, for example, but there might be someone in your family or your community who isn’t as digitally savvy, so you might want to give them a hand so they can get this Covid letter sent to them, so they can feel equally able to access events.”

Which is when Dan chipped in: “I did believe that you were doing all that [typing] on the screen, until I saw the birth date, which was the first of January 2002 – so happy 20th birthday!”

Looking unimpressed, Nina allowed: “Yes… Thanks. Tough paper round!” she joked.

Dan clarified: “On the first of January, New Year’s Day!”

Sally then joked: “You mean that wasn’t real?” as Dan burst into laughter beside her on the red sofa.

But a proud Nina said: “Thank you, Sally. You’ve always got my back.”

“Oh, come on!” Sally moaned as she giggled between the two of them, while Dan went on: “She’s 19 years old, look at her!”

Sally chipped in: “And she’s going clubbing tonight.”

Nina insisted: “There you go! All the evidence points to the fact that that is my real birth date!”

“Thank you very much, Nina,” Dan told her, as all three shared a grin.

It wasn’t the only faux pas Dan made on the programme, as he also couldn’t resist having a giggle at rival ITV presenter Lorraine Kelly, over her transformation into pop legend Adele.

As Sally showed him the photos of Lorraine in a sleek blonde wig and with scarlet fake nails for her Heat magazine transformation, Dan scoffed: “It’s quite clearly Lorraine Kelly, though, isn’t it?”

“Do you think?” Sally wondered, as he explained: “Well, yeah. Once you get up close, yeah.”

Not one to argue on TV, Sally acquiesced: “Well, I haven’t got my glasses on.”

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
