Olly Murs 'ruins' Little Mix BRITs moment as he announces band's win early

Olly Murs had a bit of an X Factor moment at Tuesday night’s BRIT Awards, as he almost announced Little Mix’s history-making Best British Group win too soon.

The star joined Adam Lambert on stage to announce the win, but he could be heard going to say “Little Mix” a little bit too soon, in a moment which was uncomfortably close to one from his time as X Factor host.

Viewers noticed immediately and flocked to Twitter to see if anyone else had picked up on it – and of course they had.

One said: “Little Mix’s win was given away by Olly Murs there, wasn’t it?”

Another tweeted: “Didn’t Olly announce Little Mix before he was supposed to?”

A third wrote: “Did Olly Murs just do another X Factor moment?”

Someone else commented: “Olly already knew who the winner was.”

Another said: “Olly announcing stuff prematurely again is it.”

While a sixth laughed: “Was Olly Murs about to shout Little Mix or is my TV playing tricks on me?”

Back in 2015, when Olly hosted The X Factor with the late Caroline Flack, Monica Michael was in the bottom two against Anton Stephans.

In a horrifically awkward moment, Olly told Monica she was going home – despite it being a deadlock situation, meaning it went to the public vote.

In the end, it did turn out to be Monica going home, though, which made the moment even more cringe-inducing.

On Tuesday night, Little Mix made history as the first females to win Best British Groups – despite the UK having a history of iconic girl bands.

And it seemed Little Mix were just as surprised that they were the first female group to win, as they gave a nod to their predecessors in their speech.

Jade Thirlwall said: “The fact that a girl band has never won this award really does speak volumes.

“So this award isn’t just for us, it’s for the Spice Girls, Sugababes, All Saints, Girls Aloud, all of the incredible, incredible female bands, this one’s for you.”

They also thanked former member Jesy Nelson, who quit Little Mix late last year to focus on her mental health.

The girls spoke of the difficulties involved with being female in the industry, saying: “We’ve seen the white male dominance, misogyny, sexism and lack of diversity.

“We’re proud of how we’ve stuck together, stood our ground, surrounded ourselves with strong women, and are now using our voices more than ever.”

The trio looked angelic in white, as host Jack Whitehall joked that Jade was drinking for the three of them, as both Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Perrie Edwards are pregnant.
